1967 ish Transmission Question

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I finally got Frankenstein running. I can see and hear it through the smoke! :D

I put it in gear and it has quite the tranny whine. Parked it immediately and I looked in the screw hole to the left side low of the tranny and found no gear oil visible. I got my allen set out and finally loosened the drain plug and drained "some" gear oil out of it. My question:

Do I fill through that left side/low opening until my gear oil is level to the opening?

(I hate assumeing).

I only dealt with 8 speeds before so this older one is new to me.

Thanks,

Exactly correct. :D

Should hold almost 2 quarts of your favorite gear oil. :USA:

Thanks, TT.

I thought so. I was sqeezing in my 80w-90 when you posted your reply. I'm going to double check that I had the tractor level when I filled. I got a quart in and that was it. (I'll do a complete flush later).

I took it for a spin in the driveway and it isn't near as whiny as it was. There couldn't have been much gear oil in it. It goes into and out of gear well. No other noises or surges that I felt. (A little pull on the engine and the smoke becomes visable). It will be great come mosquito season! :USA:

You may not get this tractor, Terry! I'm really liking it! :D
