Veteran's Day

This was written in a forum on livejournal that is for those who have served and are currently serving in Iraq..

My Dad was a tail gunner in a B26 over Germany in WWII - 40 missions and made it back in one piece, but he would never talk about what he did - or saw. I only recently found his diary after his passing ...and I now understand why.

My Mom was a M*A*S*H Nurse, regular Army, also in WWII, in the Phillippines shortly after we liberated them. She, too, is reluctant to talk about it, although she did say the TV series wasn't completely Hollywood hype - a lot of what they portrayed really did happen, just the time period and theater of operations was different.

Although a physical deformity prevented me from following in their footsteps, both taught me to value service and respect those who gave or are giving of themselves so that we might have the freedoms we take for granted, whether or not we deserve them. And so I say to all of you who have served, are serving, or may serve in the future, a sincere and heartfelt, "Thank You!"

My father was in WWII and he never talked about it at all. Never even knew what he did or his rank or anything..Only thing I know is he was in WWII and was in the Navy

My brother is the same way and he was in the Army in Vietnam...

My great-uncle Johnnie is buried in Flanders Field, killed in WWI

My Dad, Uncle Roy, and Father-in-law came home safely from WWII

My oldest cousin Don was killed in Korea

My brother-in-law and I served in Viet-Nam.

My nephew Terry retired from the 82nd Airborne served in the First Gulf War and parachuted into Panama after Noreiga.

My son Ron is Naval Reserve Intelligence and did a tour in the Middle East in 2008. He got home just in time for the Wheel horse Show. He just got called up again and leaves June 18 fo Djibuoti where he will be working with the Navy Seals and Special Forces types. We're praying for his safe return.

As you see we take Veterans Day seriously in our house............. and we vote every election :USA:

My family also, is rich with Veterans from every war...except the latest ones. I would go again if they would take me. Imagine a 60 year old E-5. :D

What a very nice post.

My Dad served in the Army during the Korean War but would only tell me stories pertaining to activities when he was at Camp Kilmer or Fort Dix. No stories of when he was in Korea.

My brother served in the USN.

Thank you to them all. The ones lucky enough to make it home and the ones lucky enough to not have to live with the memories.
