so i was using my 42 inch grader blade at work,took it off to use front blade,left it on my job site and some F-----g BA----d stole it,gone,i have only ever seen one once and i bought it,drove 2 hours each way well i cant beleive it,IM SO PI---d off,i would strangle the person who did this!!!!!

The price of scrap steel is through the roof right now, $205 a ton here. I'm betting thats where it'll end up. Go to your local scrap yard and give them this picture and have them watch out for it!

Betting it was a local who saw you working there and kept an eye on it. If it is a small town just drive down streets and see if you see it in a back yard. Good chance it was some kid. Definately check on the scrapyard and CL.

Don, sorry to hear about this. I don't know what the law enforcement situation is up your way, but I'd recommend reporting it if you haven't already. Here in the States we have something called NCIC, which is a national database of stolen items. The item has to have a make, model and serial number to be entered. I see a tag hanging off your blade, so if you had copied down those numbers it might give the local LEA (law enforcement agency) what they need to enter it into the Canadian equivalent of NCIC. Down here any law enforcement officer in the country can access the NCIC database if they find something that looks suspicious and can then determine if it was stolen, from whom, where and when. It works very well.

Guys, on the off chance the thief knows something about Wheel Horse and thinks he can make a killing on eBay, let's all keep our eyes open for this blade showing up in the next few weeks.

I agree with everyone here. I would guess this person knows that it goes to a wh and wanted it. Keep an eye out for it around town. And I would get the police involved. Good luck and I hope you catch the thieving bastard

Like someone said watch the scrap yards, free traders and ebay. Might not hurt to put a call into the scrap yards. I know when I took a load of mower blades in the other day they checked my ID.

Don, sorry about the blade.

This is actually a good time to mention if you did not record your serial # for the blade or don't have any distinctly identifiable marks on the blade (your name engraved in the blade) - Kiss it goodbye.

Let's say it did show up a pawn shop or on eBay. How would you claim it if the serial tag is missing - and you don't know what the serial # is anyway !! Let's say you found it in your neighbor's yard, called the cops. No serial # - they say its theirs - you say its yours - see where this is going?

So then you pull out your receipt - ahhhhh - no receipt - doesn't help your case.

So while we can all appreciate the sympathetic advice your getting - its useless unless you can positively identify this piece as yours.

I learned a valuable lesson when a 250lb generator "walked away" out of basement on a Saturday morning in broad daylight.

My daughter is in law enforcement and even with her pull within the local area - nothing gets done without a serial # or uniquely identifiable marks.

So take pictures of serial #'s, get receipts for purchases and hang on tight. The world is a little different place than it was even 20 years ago.

Hope you find that blade. I just bought an old tiller. The PO engraved a number on the engine and on the tiller frame. I know darned good and well that number is his driver license number. Don't do that! Years ago that was the going thing to do, but why give the sh``bird the gun and bullet to. Make up a code word/number and engrave it...write a description of your equipment with the code word and keep in a notebook. I spray a off color paint on my stuff and store the old paint can. Spray a little in spots that's hard to see or sand. Overkill? Not when you loose something and you might have a chance at putin it on that sucker someday.

Don, sorry to hear of your situation. Doesn't surprise me though, I drive ready mix. I was on a jobsite a week ago, the police asked if I had seen anyone take a trailer. Seems a siding crew had been working, all went to lunch. Someone pulled up with 3 guys loaded all their equipment up in the trailer, which was unlocked. Told a plumber that was there, The boss told them to move it to a different job... NOT....... All was gone. That is too bad. I lock up everything, I even have a Mossberg motion detector . Its too bad we have to be this way but, it is what it is........ Good Luck Pat
