633 restoration progress

Recommended Posts

1961551

hi, i know i have too many irons in the fire. but we have a show down here in april. im trying to get the 633 and the 551 back together. here is some progress on the 633. this thing was worn completly out. i mean the spindles and all contact points were grooved, some 1/4" deep. steering slipping, and trans plate had 1 inch material between the cracks. had to weld and remachine most contact points. reinforced trans plate. replaced steering sector gears were good, but pivot points were worn some. machined bushings a turned down steering shaft to .670 to create a tight fit. machined and bushened lower steering shaft. its now good to go. it had an h55 tecumseh when i got it. i had a spare k161 t. it was also worn out. (most of my stuff is) rebuilt the k161, and replaced the carb, its now good to go. transplanted an 8 speed out of a junk gt1142. i hope its good B) the rear tires, a got from a friend. they are 6.00-12. the are 4 inches taller than a 6-12. i did not know that. i found out they were front tires off of a small 4wd tractor. they clear the fenders. barely. fronts are new ebay specials from china. frame and heavy parts were shot peened a sprayed with valspar ih. sheet metal is now prepped and awaiting paint. this is not a show piece. i just try to do my best with what i have to work with. i plan on using this tractor alot. jimmy

will post more when sheet metal is on

Looking great - nice work. I would have to admit I liked the way it looked before too! I think the round hoods have a look that wears well and still look even not restored.

Anxious to see more when you finish, and thanks for posting.

some progress. its going together good, but slow. wife has the baby in the house. i have my 21 month old son helping me. so theres more time spent keeping him content, and not destruction. i got to fix a few paint chips on the frame :omg: anyway, here are some pics.

hi, i have the 633 finished. it aint no show piece, but i think its decent. i like it alot. it was fun to restore and my son loves it. he helped me on it. it goes pretty fast with the 3.5 trans pulley. i was worried about losing low range speed. in my opinion,1st gear low range is useless, even with faster speed pulley. i love the pull start only. i wish all of my tractors were pull start only. anyway, here are the pictures. jimmy
