Shipping items outside of USA?

Recommended Posts

mowerman1193

I listed one of my desk clocks on Ebay..I have been asked if I would ship to UK Great Britain..I have never shipped outside of the USA and was wondering what all might be involved (if anyone knows) ..I have been shipping these in the small flat rate box's and I thought I seen a commercial on TV that the flat rate box's ship anywhere in the world?? If so probably at a larger international fee?

Thanks for any advice on this..

Kevin

Looks like small flat rate boxes go international to the UK for about $13.50.... and you'd have to go to the post office and fill out a customs declaration on it.

If they are simply asking you if you would ship it to another country, Jason is right.

~I am going to take this subject to the next level and say:

You are quite possibly losing a lot of money using those flat rate boxes. Are they convenient? Yes. Is the post office trying to pull a sheet over your eyes. Yes.

They are great if you are shipping heavier items, but if you are shipping smaller items, you can get rates that are much cheaper and pocket the rest of the money if you use Priority or First Class. You should be able to get current rates and requirements on their website.

Matt, I totally agree with you on the flat rate shipping..I did check into this a couple weeks ago and yes on some of the clocks (softwood) I could save money..Well really I guess I would on all of them I have sold so far..Just that on the hardwood ones I am not saving much at all..And because Each one has a different weight it makes it harder to do the figuring without a postal scale..Some of these I would save as much as $2 but others was just very small change..Plus I would have to buy some box's ( I don't think these would be very protected in a padded envelope if it was dropped)..The smallest box I could find that would work would end up being more than shipping with the flat rate box..

On another note: I do like to pocket money just like anyone else does..However I am not about cheating money from others either..I bought something a while back on Ebay and the sellers ad said priority shipping..however it took forever to get here and it was something right here in my own state..When I got the package it showed it was shipped ground..I was charged for priority and recieved ground shipping..I was not in a big hurry for the item but was not satisfied that the seller charge me for more than I recieved..This to me is stealing and lying..

I completely agree with you on this. I am not one to steal and cheat anyone out of money. That's why when I buy ANYTHING from ebay until I check out the shipping price before bidding on the item. There are really sneaky people out there. If its a fair shipping price, I'll pay it, even though it may be a little bit cheaper than what they paid.

Truth be told, that is how people make money on ebay these days. The market is just filled with too much competition.

Many sellers will send things the cheapest way that they can to get that extra 50
