Mrs. Betty Pond Has Passed Away

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorsestory

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately,I am writing with very sad news. This past Friday, Betty Pond passed away. Their daughter Connie has asked me to inform everyone in the Wheel Horse world of the news. She has also asked that you respect their privacy. I have attached a copy of Betty's obituary. If you knew Betty as I did, you would have had the joy of knowing one of the classiest, sensitive, caring, and generous people. She was the wind beneath Cecil's wings as every man's wife should be. I know that Betty is now in Heaven, walking on the street of gold. She is looking down and watching over her family as she always has.

Sincerely,

Michael Martino

Betty Jane Alber Pond

July 2, 1924

Very sad. Thanks for letting us know Mike.

64 years of marriage B) . Apparently Cecil knew all about tractors and how to keep his "girl" happy. Very impressive.

God what sad news.... Its amazing how a little red tractor has created such a large "family" of people. I cannot think of another company or product that has done that. May she rest in peace and I pray for Cecil, 64 years is an incredible achievement and what I would think was his best one of them all.

I actually got to meet Mrs Pond and Cecil that very first morning that they were at the Wheel Horse show in Arendtsville, Pa. It was about 9:30 am and I had just come around the corner and I stopped to ask there name to which they responded the Ponds. I introduced myelf and someone had yelled from my group and I asked the guys to wait, when I turned to answer I noticed that Mrs Pond kind of followed my shadow as it was a bright sunny morning. Cecil then asked me if I knew where to get some sunglasses because she had left hers behind. I told him that I didn't think that anybody at the show was selling them, so I had a pair on my head. I said well these aren't the best but I have these . So I took them off of my head cleaned them up with my T'shirt and went ahead and gave them to her. They were far from the best as they were only safety glasses from work. The price was right and they were a new pair. You can actually see her carrying them in the first picture under the umbrella. She was very happy and I got to talk with the couple for at least another 10 minutes. She is a very classy lady and will always be remembered. The Pond family will be in my thoughts and prayers. John

Thanks Mike! Yes this is Sad news indeed. I am glad I was able to meet them also two years ago at the show. Betty Pond was a very nice lady my Wife's Aunt MaryJane, (My Wife is her Great Aunts namesake) (she is 97 years old) knew Cecil and Betty pond well. she owned many properties and businesses in South Bend and that is how she was able to know them. In reading the South Bend Tribune this morning I read the original obituary and this is a scanned copy. Or prayers are with Cecil and his family in this time of sorrow.
