stevasaurus 22,286 #1 Posted February 17, 2010 I was wondering...now that we have all the paint codes...would it be a good idea to maybe buy PPG Paint in bulk. Would save many dollars. thanks

buckrancher 2,678 #3 Posted February 17, 2010 Whats the shelf life? B)
rwilson 128 #4 Posted February 22, 2010 shelf life should be a long time as long as there is no hardener and it dont freeze! Beas clear should be fine but single stage might harden up over time.
Save Old Iron 1,564 #5 Posted February 22, 2010 Just a caution we have the "codes" has anyone yet had the "codes" actually mixed to see if they are correct ? You know how the hen house gets all a-twitter when we start talking "correct" colors. Figured I would mention that before anyone commits to a 500 gallon order thru PPG ! rmaynard 14,984 #6 Posted February 22, 2010 What kind of paint are we talking about here? Acrylic Enamel, Acrylic Urethane, single-stage, or base-coat/clear-coat or what? Bob
VinsRJ 721 #7 Posted February 22, 2010 Save some for me. I'll be needing some ... Mike, you're not really thinking about stripping that RJ down, are you?
Rideawaysenior 25 #8 Posted February 22, 2010 Codes??? What are these "Codes" you speak of. Tell us the "codes". Serious, are the codes the ones from the mid 80's or the newer codes. I've got to get some paint for the 420. Jack

stevasaurus 22,286 #12 Posted February 23, 2010 Holy Cow...so are we going to have spray painting parties, or are we mailing quarts of PPG in Mason Jars around the world? I'm liking the get together for a weekend and let's spray some parts. Didn't I read in a previous post...that you can make your own rattle cans also?
JimD 3,345 #13 Posted February 23, 2010 this is great news. i just bought a new roller and some brushes. B)
Kelly 1,028 #14 Posted February 23, 2010 No roller needed with 500gal of paint we just dip them and hang to dry.
stevasaurus 22,286 #15 Posted February 24, 2010 Kelly...you are on the right track...VW used to dip the Beetles in the paint (enamel) with a charge on the paint and the opposite charge on the body. I had a 1972 Super Beetle that I bought new...nice paint job. Is that possible...can we do that? Electrolysis paint.? Seriously...are spray painting parties an option?
CasualObserver 3,406 #16 Posted February 24, 2010 Is that possible...can we do that? Electrolysis paint.? Isn't that pretty much the definition of powder coating? Only difference is dry powder or wet enamel.
Kelly 1,028 #17 Posted February 24, 2010 If you read the Wheel horse book they charged the tractors and sprayed them, but as we all know it didn't hold up very well, they should have primed them, I have a couple other brand tractors from the early 60's and the paint is much better, and was primed first.
