Heading to Haiti Monday

Recommended Posts

hodge

We had a team planned for January 14th to the 23rd, doing medical clinics, but the airport closed due to the earthquake, and we couldn't get in. We reconnoitered things, and since Virginia Mennonite Missions was sending teams in through the Dominican Republic, we jumped on that train. I am on a team of 8, 7 of them doctors and nurses (guess which one is the 8th wheel? I need to cram in some ER, so I can join in the conversations). Naturally, we will be doing clinics in various areas of Port Au Prince. The medical emergencies are about over, but there is a lot of stuff like diahrrea from dehydration, coughing from dust, and other stuff that can be expected due to the current conditions. Our work can be followed on www.missionaryjames.com. Keep the Haitians in your prayers, and us. We return on the 27th.

In Christ,

Mark

Mark, be safe and Godspeed! My nealry 82 year old father-in-law just returned yesterday. He was down there with Water Missions International, out of Charleston, S.C. He had to go in through the Dom. Rep. as well. He was there for almost three weeks.

Thanks, guys. Maybe I need to revise a request for prayer- good chance of snow Monday, don't know how much, but pray that it doesn't affect Dulles. Maybe a brigade of horses with snowblades on the runway would be appropriate... B)

I'll post a few photos, and I'll do one better- I'll report what is REALLY happening. So many times, the news reported one thing, and we found it to be completely different down there.

Case in point- with all the foreign aid coming in, we have to take all our own meds down- there is none for us to distribute. And, there is no organization in place. We are on our own to find places to work.
