thanks Randy...yea...it woke everyone up...my daughter ran outside...thought it might have been a semi sliding down the street. Things rattled for about 20 seconds and the house got that rolling motion. The epicenter was about 1/2 to 1 mile from the house. Way to close for me. :hbd: No damage was reported and no injuries were reported. B) Didn't know I was on a fault line...no wonder I can't sell the house. MikeRJ told me, "I was on the fault line".

If I would not have joined Red Square...I never would have known I lived in a dangerous place. Jim (Fan) told me today...he likes the rocking motion, and made me an offer on the house. How cool is that? B)

Glad to hear everything/everyone is OK..

The fault line is called The [New] Madrid fault line runs all the way up here I guess and way south of you. Can't remember the vital stuff. I've heard IF it does go it will be bad.

Steve,

I'm glad you're okay.

As for the New Madrid fault line - it's name after a little town in southeast Missouri and the last major quake along that fault line had the Mississippi River running backwards for a little while, and actually change the river's route permanently. See this link: http://www.showme.net/~fkeller/quake/sitemap.htm These little quakes like the one yesterday, if it was the New Madrid fault line, might be good to relieve some of the pressure along that fault line. Fault lines, like the New Madrid one, are not like the fault lines in California and the Pacific coast line. Those fault lines there don't have the underlying rock formation like we have here in the midwest, so earthquakes here will be felt along a wider area than the ones along the Pacific coast line.

Anyone remember Iben Browning?

Anyone remember Iben Browning?

Yep. He had everyone in the metro scared stiff.

Must have been around 1990 or so that he made his doomsday prediction...still waiting.

I didn't think the New Madrid fault went that far north, but I'm too lazy to look. We've discussed this topic before on RS - although my search this morning didn't find it - but you might recall that the New Madrid fault is a geological anomoly in that it is the only faultline in the world that does not lie on the edge of a tectonic plate.

And it will be a bad news situation for the country if it ever lets go with the energy it did in the past since it will likely take out petroleum and natural gas pipelines that service the whole country.

Pleasant topic.

Glad the rocking is over in Elgin B)

Steve

Lots of good information guys. I have been waiting for an after shock, but have not felt any yet. I did get a couple of hours of seat time last night cleaning up the snow. B) I was wrong about running sidewalks being the best there is... The best is running sidewalks at night with all the lights on.:hbd:

Keep moving that snow guys and gals...and be safe.

Steve, glad to hear you're doing OK. I hope it's nothing a bottle of Rock and Rye won't cure or was that the cause of the fall? I hope when I get to see you at the show in June, you're on a Wheel Horse not in a wheelchair. B)
