Hammered!

:hbd: Conditions are far worse in Frederick County MD this time. Those of you who know David and me, know he works for the State Highway Administration pushing snow. The storm we got over the weekend had him out from 6am Friday til 4:14pm Monday. He was back out pushing snow at 4pm Tuesday and is still not home. Conditions have gotten so bad that at 2pm today the guys were told to park the trucks where ever they were. As of this post..they are still off the roads. The visiability level is so minimal that there was an extreme danger of plowing into disabled occupied vehicles.

This snow, for me actually, is normal, as I moved here from VT B)

The one thing I find different, tho, is that up there.....we have enough sense to stay OFF the roads. Maybe that's because during storms like this, they declare a state of emergency and if you are on the roads with anything other than snow mobiles, 4-wheelers, or skis......you WILL get a $500.00 ticket on the spot. Dr's and nurses are brought to and from the hospitals by way of the National Guard.

Down here in MD it seems like every idiot and their family members just HAVE to go out drivin' in the snow for the fun of it, then bawl when they get stuck. I'm sorry but I really hope the tow truck drivers charge them BIG BUCKS for their stupidity

The snow here is so bad that I can't even get some seat time in cause the snow's blowing SIDEWAYS... right into my face! Sure wish we had a cab, now LOL. My luck.....we'd get one and never have another wintr bad enought to need it

A friend of our has found David a snow blower for the C-121. Too bad he didn't find it sooner, than yesterday B)

Oh well! Just gonna wait til this is over and go out and play with the horse B)

Hopefully David is safe and warm catching a few ZZZ's. Sounds like he has earned it.

Hey Redbird,

I know what you mean. I'm over here in New Windsor (Carroll County). You and I got hit the hardest in the state. I have been blowing and plowing snow since I got up this morning, and it is stalled over us now. Snow just keeps falling. Now the wind is starting with gusts expected to reach 50 mph.

Stay safe. I'm not going anywhere unless it is a dire emergency.

I worked for a small municipality doing water, waste water, and streets. The winters of 1977/78 were rough because all I had was an ALLIS CHALMERS D-15 with bucket & grader blade.

In the early 80's we got a 10' plow for the dump truck. In February 1984 my son was born, and I had to take my 4 year old daughter with me plowing, and we spent many, many hours together in that truck!

Redbird...you hit it on the head. I was stationed in Maine and they know how to take care of snow there as they do in VT. The locals also know to store up and stay off the roads when things are not safe....you can die out there, not to mention that you can kill somebody else...ask Burly...he was very lucky. Around here...if you can get on the tollway, you think you got a chance to get home that night....problem is...if you were the only idiot on the road, you might make it, the reality is ...you are not the only idiot on the road. Hope Dave is OK...he knows also. Me...I saw it coming...not part of the problem. You know how nice it is to not be part of the problem...? B)

We are still getting hammered in South Jersey. I work for the local Electric Utility (inside thank goodness) and even in a state of emergency I'm authorized to be on the road. Something to do with my job being necessary for power restoration B) I can't even use the excuse that I can't make it in, they'll come and get me.

Wind and snow still blowing in Virginia also. I went to work today and had to go thru a few 3" drifts just to get out of the parking lot, not to mention the whiteout conditions that came from nowhere. Pretty rough out there today. Stay safe everybody.

Latest update....... State of emergency.... saying no one to be on county roads EXCEPT for extreme emergency. David called a few minutes ago.... got swtiched to loader and is actually digging tunnels THROUGH the snow. Sections of some of the Interstates have been shut down completely. One of the state highways..Rt 17... is where David is tunneling B) He hasn't even had breakfast yet and it's already 11am. Also, he broke his plow this morning about 6:30am and had to go back to the state shop to scrounge up another. I'm not ready to try to plow yet..the winds are picking up and again coming from the west---right into my face..

 I can't seeeeeeeeeee

Hey Duff........

I lived in Brandon--19 mi north of Rutland...from 1997 til 2004 moved here to MD in June 2004. Been wishing for snow ever since I got here B)

Be careful what you wish for

Actually I'm loving it!!!!!!!!!!! Our dogs have never seen this kind of snow before (only 4 yrs old) so they have been having a ball every time they go out to do their business. Snow's deeper than they are high, and they're shepherd/husky mix close to shep size w/ shep markings. Think I'm gonna go out and try to plow. Wish me luck
