Shipping on ebay

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone Iam just kind of curious as to what you guys my think about this one. I won a fuel tank and a mower guard from a goy living in Southern Ind. down around Cincinnatibut in Ind. I had asked this guy for combined shipping on these items and he sends me a quote for the same amount for each item if won seperately, total was 15.00 each or 30.00. I had already previously wrote to the guy and he stated if he gets enough money for them, only problem there bids were already in place. Personally my thoughts you really don't want to hear. Does anybody here have any thoughts John

I despise sellers who profit from shipping. I don't have any advice for you, except leave feedback with what you think.

Well Karl, I also have another thing on this guy. Acouple of another guys also did some checking on this guy. One of the other items he has sold was relisted, it was a 58rj.These guys believe that he had a shill bidder by the name of iceman bid on everything this guy had that of corse included the two pieces that I had won. I also beleive he again is the lead bidder on the 58rj

now that I have looked it looks like the rj has been removed. I would leave bad feedback but only after he leaves feedback for me John

Hello Kevin Actually I have had this happen before .The guy wanted 40.00 to ship 2 front weights. I finally got a phone # and talked with the guy and he finally figured out it would not be right so I gave him half and he shipped them right away and I think he still made a few dollars John

And "Iceman" and the seller have both been members of ebay since May 2007. Hmm, a coincidence...I doubt it. <_<

I've been on this soap box before, but here I go again.

I also despise sellers who make a profit on shipping. I will avoid bidding on an item if the shipping is more than I think it should be.

I have accidentally overcharged on shipping before, but if it's more than a few cents I always refund it.

I have found that the eBay shipping calculator ahoots a little high. If a buyer pays before I send a corrected invoice, I almost always end up refunding a little money.

I see things on there all the time that I know will ship for $5.00 or less and the seller wants $10.00 or more to ship it. If it's something I would like to bid on, I won't hesitate to e-mail the seller first and let them know that they're out of line on the shipping charge. A couple of times they've even shipped to me for a lower price, but more often they tell me, " that's the price, take it or leave it". I leave it.

A lot of people don't realize that you can ship up to 50 pounds in a flat rate priority box for $9.00. I've shipped a lot of wheel weights that way.

Yeah I ran into the flat rate box issue already  Sold some parts I intended to put into a flat rate box, and thats what I charged for. Then found out that the box is only rated for 20 lbs now  Had to use 2 and lost some money on the deal. Live and learn. I gave the guy the original price for shipping and stuck with it as it was my foul up not his.

Thanks for the heads up on the flat rate boxes. I'm sure that one would have burned me in the near future!

I almost forgot about this one. I spotted something non Wheel Horse on ebay a while back that I wanted to bid on. The shipping was $15.00 and it was only 6 miles away so I asked if I could pick it up. He said sure, but it's $15.00 to pick it up.

I told him where to stick it.

I know i have probably over charged some of you  , but i dont have a regular job to compensate for gas, and the post office is 11 miles away one way! i try to be as accurate as possible so the buyers will come back and my feedback shows it! i did buy a forward/reverse/park decal for my D-200 a while back and the seller charged me $3.00 for shipping its the size of a silver dollar and as thick as 2 or 3 sheets of paper, recieved it in an envelope with a 41 cent stamp

I had a similar thing happen Jim. A local seller wanted $45 to ship something. I asked about local pick up, and he say absolutely not! Claimed he didn't have time. Funny, he apparently had time to drop it off at the post office!

Are some people stupid enough to think you'd pay $45 to ship something 5 miles?

Apparently so...

Kevin

Well Ebay has been the next stop. I will be writing to Trust and Safety tomorrow and if they find out exactly what this guy is up to he will be sanctioned.I just hope he thinks this is worth it. John

you can only put 20 lbs in flatrate now? I didnt get the memo. I dont care if they make a little for shipping but you all correct, some of these guys go overboard. I charg .75 handling fee but mostly that to cover the ebay fees. Ive never had a complaint yet so i guess its good.

I've had the same things happen to me. Ask if I can come pick it up local. Guy says thay don't let customers in the shipping warehouse :banghead: I got burnt on shipping once too. Sold somthing and qouted way low on shipping. Took it to get it shipped. I ended up loseing $1 on the whloe thing, paid the guy to take it :USA:

In your case I'd just wouldn't pay the guy and leave him hanging. Sellers can't even leave you negative feedback anymore. I guess ebay figures if everyone has 100% feedback more people will buy so they can get thier cut

Restrictions

Contents must reasonably fit within the Priority Mail packaging, and weigh less than 70 pounds.

The only change was the separate large box rate.

Here's the current chart from the USPS website:

It had went around that they changed the priority flat rate box maximum weight but looking now it appears the limit is still 70 pounds. The international flat rate is 20 pounds so maybe that is how it got around. :banghead:
