pumper.atv 26 #1 Posted January 27, 2010 i am just dreading spring when we have to rake the ditch by hand because the grader pushes it there during snow removal. Would like to save my back so do any of you have an easier way :banghead:

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #3 Posted January 27, 2010 It must not be the kind of ditch I'm picturing if you need to rake it. I use a mid-mount grader blade to get the stone back out of my yard in the spring. The stones in my ditch live there year 'round. :banghead:

rockbuilt 7 #6 Posted January 27, 2010 sounds like you need to edge the driveway with timbers or something to keep the driveway off your lawn and out of your ditch or find a hungry neighborhood kid to rake it for you for a few dollars than you can go back and do it yourself to get it done right

Sarge 3,465 #8 Posted January 27, 2010 I've got a decent sized area to clean up myself, takes half a day to rake it up. Looking for a rotary broom, should make quick work of that. Sarge

Horse Rancher 0 #10 Posted January 27, 2010 I do know that sears sells a landscape rake to go on the clevis hitch looks just like an over grown yard rake that fits a tractor :banghead:
Sarge 3,465 #11 Posted January 27, 2010 I prefer engine powered equipment, if nothing else something to chase the neighborhood brats with....lol . Sarge
Kelly 1,033 #12 Posted January 27, 2010 I still have kids living at home , so they get the first layer then dad goes back over it, all by hand with a rake , I'll try the mid grader this spring, I push the snow about 15+ feet off the drive so as I get more snow I have some place to put it, but lots of gravel goes with
rickv1957 74 #13 Posted January 27, 2010 I have and prefer a gravel drive so Im in the same boat!,Rick
can whlvr 994 #14 Posted January 27, 2010 i use the snow blade and if u get on it at just the right time it will push the graavel off and not wreck the grass,i like the broom idea though,i have never seen a wheelhorse with a broom in person.
wh500special 2,267 #15 Posted January 27, 2010 I have a pretty sizeable gravel driveway and live on a dirt/gravel road, so I can sympathize with you...believe me. When our snow starts thawing and the temperatures stay up a bit, I start plowing the snow back onto the driveway so that when it melts I have less gravel to relocate. Probably gets about half of it. But we don't get much snow here in central Indiana so I don't have to plow a wide path like Kelly does..I go maybe 4'-5' off the driveway. Unfortunately, there really is no better tool than a rake to get the rest of the rock in the spring . Try to catch it before the ground thaws so you don't mess up the grass as badly. Like cleaning gutters, this is just one of those homeowner tasks that really sucks. Steve

bitten 134 #17 Posted January 27, 2010 My father-in-law used a shop vac one time, looked funny but did the trick. I try to push it back with the blade like wh500special noted.
pumper.atv 26 #18 Posted January 27, 2010 the biggest problem is not from the driveway (cement) but the gravel from the road, thinkin bout MAKIN a sweeper or a rake
mowerman1193 42 #19 Posted January 28, 2010 I live on a gravel road so the plow truck goes by and slings the stones about 15 -20' into my yard..I use a snow blade while the stuff is still kinda clumped together..Like someone else said " if you get it at the right time you will get most of it".. Then I take my pull behind lawn sweeper to get the rest of it.. Kevin
