dkopp 1 #1 Posted January 25, 2010 I saw this on the infamous you tube and had to post it. Hope this link works. Sure looks to be more horse like than deere like. I could be wrong though.
whfan74 2,068 #2 Posted January 25, 2010 Has some lines of a Horse but would have to say it is more of a Doe......I mean Deere. Thanks for the link!
TT-(Moderator) 1,158 #3 Posted January 25, 2010 It does look like it's built from most of an RJ58/59 or 400/550/401/551 Wheel Horse.
dkopp 1 #4 Posted January 25, 2010 TT ... Thats what I thought too after I looked at it a second time. I think he had enough weights on the front end to keep it down.
sscotsman 186 #5 Posted January 25, 2010 They are calling it a "Mini JD-830" and on another video they call it a "replica Jhon Deer 830" so I guess "John Deere" never made anything like that, but "Jhon Deer" did! I take it the real JD never made anything that small? Scot
sscotsman 186 #6 Posted January 25, 2010 This kind of thing confuses me.. This is the third "green wheelhorse" I have seen here in only a few weeks of being a member.. I admit I know nothing about the alleged "John Deere Mystique".. and I will probably never care.. so apprently there are people SO into JD that they will take a non-JD and paint it up to look like one? Dont their purist JD friends pick on them for doing so? you would think that kind of thing would be looked down upon.. the real JD fans must know its a fake, so clearly they cant be doing it to "fool" anyone..why then? Its sort of like taking a 1969 Camaro and trying to pass it off as a Ford Mustang at a car show.. why would anyone bother? <_< the Ford guys would laugh you out of town, and the Chevy guys would consider you a traitor! Can anyone explain this phenomenon? it makes no sense to me.. thanks, Scot
TT-(Moderator) 1,158 #7 Posted January 25, 2010 It's done for the same reason most of us have these tractors..... simplicity of design. "Back in the day", a Wheel Horse was about as plain and uncomplicated as you could get, but they still had durability and engineering that kept them around (and still able to work hard for their owners) for many years after they rolled off the assembly line. There wasn't any plastic or unnecessary garbage to "pollute" them and the average homeowner with a small selection of hand tools could service and maintain them. (kind of like cars and motorcycles used to be ) That simplistic design is what attracts people to the Wheel Horses when building small-scale replicas of bigger tractors - from the old steam traction engines to more modern ones like the YouTube John Deere. A few of the members here have posted pictures of some pretty amazing replicas (some based on the International Cub Cadet chassis) and I have seen a few online and at some local shows too. Here's a few I dug up - without digging too deep (all Wheel Horse-based): As far as JD garden tractors go...... they were built, but we try to forget about them on this forum. :WRS:
sscotsman 186 #8 Posted January 25, 2010 Interesting..thanks Terry! thats a new one for me.."minature replicas of larger tractors".. this hobby gets stranger all the time! (I mean that in a good way! Scot
clintonnut 126 #9 Posted January 25, 2010 I have seen that kid on the "JD" at the Rough & Tumble pulls. He pulls in the 5-600lb class. Charlie
Curmudgeon 28 #10 Posted January 25, 2010 Same kid on "another" JD 830. Just for comparison and so you can see what a JD 830 really does look like. At least in one incarnation. Dale

linen beige 15 #13 Posted January 26, 2010 the real JD fans must know its a fake, so clearly they cant be doing it to "fool" anyone..why then? So the JD salesmen can have working models with which to lure in prospective customers.
