bustedglass 1 #28 Posted December 14, 2009 Chris, wishing you the best for a speedy recovery.. I was Glazing Contractor for 20+ years, specializing in new school construction. And Bob in New Windsor is correct. All door glass and any glass lites next to a door is to be safety glass of some sort. Safety Tempered, Safety Laminated, etc., depending on the application. In this instance ( a school ), Safety Tempered should be required per code..... Hire yourself a good lawyer. It is my thinking, that you will have plenty of money in the future, to support your tractor habit .

Docwheelhorse 2,740 #30 Posted December 14, 2009 Wow Chris... that really sucks. Your going to have a well padded check book when your done with the school and lawyers---I just hope you get 100% back on your arm!!!! Tony
Coadster32 793 #31 Posted December 14, 2009 Just seeing this for the first time. Hope you start healing up. Don't rush out and plow anything. I know how hard it is to sit still, and watch things go by. (I was out two months for back surgery). Give it the time it takes. Battle scars are cool. You're a healthy strong one, and should heal just fine. Definately do the rehab suggestions 100% though. :notworthy:

WHC-125 4 #33 Posted December 14, 2009 Well I found out when I went to the doctors today that it was a little worse. I cut 7-8 tendons and those are going to have to heal on there own. And I cut the nerves in 2 fingers and those a going to take a few months to heal completely. And the surgeon is going to get a special sling/ cast so I can practice moving my fingers. Thanks guys for looking out for me and I dont think my family is going to try and sue because they are worried the most on I having a full recovery.

Chris, sorry to hear the damage is worse than first thought, but be of good cheer! Even if some things don't quite heal on their own, they are able to make surgical repairs today we couldn't even have dreamed of just a few years ago! I respect your folks' thinkng and priorities about filing a law suit....of course your recovery comes first, as well it should. But I sure as h*ll hope you and your family don't have to pay a single penny out of pocket for any medical expenses. The school district or their insurer should be held fully acountable for all of this at some level. JMHO from somebody who cares...... bustedglass 1 #35 Posted December 18, 2009 Chris, sorry to hear that your injury's are worse than first thought. Take time to heal right, and dont rush anything. And dont worry, the school systems pay PLENTY for insurance premiums, and this type of injury is MORE than covered. Just get better, then.................... SUE, SUE, SUE . P.S. - JUST REMEMBER, THE ATTORNY'S HAVE BILLS TO PAY TOO .
WHC-125 4 #36 Posted December 22, 2009 Well guys I went to the surgeons office last night and he took my cast off and checked it out he said that the cut wasnt infected. He also had me practice moving my fingers. He pushed down on them and I tryed to lift them back up. Then he put another cast back on. Also, I should be starting physical therapy soon. tgranthamfd 29 #38 Posted December 24, 2009 Hang in ther buddy, they can do a lot of things these days that wasn't even thought of a long time ago. About a year and a half ago, I basicly tore the end of my finger off, on the finger print side, clean down to the bone. They sewed it to the back of the finger next to it, for 2 weeks, then split them apart taking all of the meat from the back of one finger to put it on the finger print side of the damaged one, then cut some skin off of my wrist to put over the new meat. I thought they would just hack off the end of my finger, but all turned out well and I still have all of my finger, and have good use of it. I hope this was an inspiring story not a gross one for you. I have been there and wish you the best. :notworthy:
jla1257 2 #39 Posted December 24, 2009 Chris, I had a bad laceration a number of years ago that resulted in severed nerves. The doctor told me that whereever I feel numbness I should stimulate that area as much as I can tolerate. As the nerves grow back and repair themselves your brain will need to re-learn sensations. What was suggested was to rub the numb areas with a fingernail and gently poke them with a soft pointed object like a ballpoint pen. It took a few years to get some of the feeling back, BUT I am a lot older than you, no longer growing, the cut I received was extremely jagged and became infected due to countless metal, wood and bone chips left in the surrounding tissue. Talk to them first and if the doctors feel it will help, stimulate the numb areas as much as you can all day long. Jeff

WHC-125 4 #42 Posted December 28, 2009 Don, thanks alot for the support I really appreciate it, I hope you had a Merry Christmas as well! And guys today was first my first day of physical therapy. The doctor there took off the cast I had on and examined how I was doing, he said I was doing pretty good. But when he took it off I got very light headed and dizzy, like an anxiety attack. Then I got a soda and some christmas cookies and was feeling a little better. I guess I wasnt used to seeing my arm again. He then helped me move my fingers and I was able to do it a little bit by myself. Also, he molded a half cast type piece to my arm so I can do exercises at home to move my fingers as well, that are about every 2 hours. I am going back again Wednesday for another session with him as well and he wants me to go 3 times a week for now on. Lastly, I guess it looks like I am on the road to a long recovery :notworthy:

Duff 206 #50 Posted December 29, 2009 Hey, Chris! Glad you're coming along well! And don't let 'em razz you too much about getting light-headed. I volunteered on an ambulance for a few years and the sight of blood and guts never so much as raised an eyebrow, BUT...let someone come at me with a needle and I become a quivering pile of doo-doo. That's my story, and I ain't ashamed of it! Duff :banghead:
