WHC-125 4 #78 Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks again guys for the support it really helps alot as I am on my road to recovery! Also, I had another session of physical therapy today and I have good news. And being the stubborn person that I am I asked my therapist if I could skip ahead and try some other exercises that i have done and she thought I have been doing pretty good through the therapy process and she let me. Also, on Friday I asked if I could try holding a 1 lb weight and she didnt think I would be able to have the grip on it but I did and I was able to move my wrist with it in my hand as well. So today I practiced squeezing a sponge in my hand and move my hands and wrists in the opposite directions as I had a device that made tension on them to strengthen the muscles and tendons. So hopefully by this Friday I will start doing those exercises regularly as well instead of just that one time but it is great to know that I am able to do them already. Lastly, my therapist also said 2 weeks from Friday I have a good chance on being able to ride my quad with both hands but my ring finger and pinky my be a little difficult to manage because I cut the nerve half way for my ring finger and another nerve completely for my pinky and the outside of my palm of my hand. WHC-125 4 #81 Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks Bob and Rick! Also today I had another therapy session, I have been able to make a full fist without too much difficulty and I have been practicing with squeezing the sponges to gain the strength back in my arm. And I have been doing other numerous exercises. My physical therapist sent me home with a thing of silly puddy to practice with squeezing and doing different exercises with my hand. She said as of a week from this Friday I should be able to go on my quad with 2 hands and finally go out and work on the horses after a long time of not being able to do anything. I also am going to see the surgeon then so it will be his decision as well on whether or not I am able to do anything yet. I guess we will just have to wait and see B)
Operator 7 #82 Posted February 9, 2010 I've been watching this too, man that is one nasty scar! Be proud young man it could have been a lot worse. You are doing great keep it up! Can I say one thing about the school, Don't ever sign any papers releasing them of any wrong doings! Never ever! My son had a school project of shed construction, came time to place the shed he was on the wrong end and it rolled over his ankle breaking it, plates in his ankle and surgery again after 5 years then again 2 years later on his knee from the same accident. So never release them of wrong doing. Randy
WHC-125 4 #83 Posted March 4, 2010 Thanks Randy for the support and I am sorry about your son! Well guys I havent been on here much lately but I thought I would give you all an update. I havent went to therapy last week because my grandmother was on vacation and I couldnt get a ride during the day. So today was the first day I went this week and my therapist has had me doing exercises on this machine and I have been doing really good and doubling my results each time with the resistence rising each time so I can get strength back in my arm. She said I can go up to lifting a 10 lb weight and I can start doing push ups, but there is very little muscle in my hand so it hurts a little bit when I put pressure on it. I also bought a 2001 Honda 400 ex with a clutch on the left hand side and in my opinion the clutch helps strengthening my hand and arm B)
