Pullstart 71,470 #1 Posted Thursday at 02:10 PM I haven’t had a recordable in quite some time. I was trying to drill out a stripped screw just now, and they say to drill without gloves for safety. Well the bit snapped, and somehow the broken end found its way about 1/2” into the side of my hand. The instant sharpness felt like I smacked my hand. Then I saw the cool part! Sorry, no impalement photo, I twisted that sucker out quick! Currently flushing and peroxide treating… luckily I have full mobility of my pinky and can feel with it too! 1
parsonsponyz 415 #2 Posted Thursday at 03:25 PM Thank goodness you've not gotten nerve damage and still have mobility. Now to bite down on some leather and put whiskey on it, or is that the other way around. Take care and be careful.
rmaynard 17,618 #3 Posted Thursday at 03:53 PM I can't tell you how many times I've tried to drill something or punch something or screw something that I was holding in my hand. You'd think that after at least 6 decades of doing dumb things I'd learn. I've got nothing recent, but here are scars from my two most memorable incidents. Red circle is where I was trying to push a pencil through a potato at age 12. There is still a black dot where the graphite remains. Green circle is where I pushed an 1/8" flat blade screwdriver through my hand when it slipped. That was when I was 45. There have been many more before and after. I'm lucky to still be alive. So, even though I've given you a hard time about safety, I too have done a lot of dumb stuff. 1 1

You may want to think about getting a tetanus shot if it's been over ten years since your last one. 1

It would take much force to get it free, wether a pull or a smash… 1
ri702bill 13,250 #8 Posted Thursday at 05:48 PM I, on the other hand (get it?), only wore my Wedding Band on social occasions. Working fabricating and assembling machines & automated equipment, it was too much of a safety hazard.

Nearly lost my index finger in 1964 when the ring hooked on the metal brace of a wooden ladder while I was sliding down fireman style. I put the ring back in it's case and left it there for 50 years. When I put it on it was too small for the index, but was a perfect fit on the pinky. 4 1
Beap52 2,519 #11 Posted Thursday at 11:49 PM I haven't worn a wedding ring (or any other jewelry) in several years. For one, I got it caught more than once at work and we decided it wasn't worth the potential danger Also, as you can see I have dupuytren's contracture. There are supposed to be procedures to help but it doesn't hurt and I've been living with it for 25 or thirty years. Biggest hinderance is getting into tight areas to work. What has bit me more than once is impact drivers slipping off of screw head and doing damage. We will be married for 49 years this coming January. I suppose Pam will keep me around even without a ring.
c-series don 12,586 #12 Posted Thursday at 11:58 PM I’ve been wearing my ring for 33 years even though my wife tells me not to! She says put it on if we go to a special event or something like that. I’ve had a few close calls for sure! Mainly I wear it to keep the ladies from constantly hitting on me 😜😂 6

Ronnie Lot had his pinky finger cut off instead of surgery so he could get back on the field faster just to play in a playoff game! Suck it up because the big show is more important than any playoff game! LOL

I fell off a 12' ladder onto the concrete floor in my shop in 2024. Initial x-ray led to an orthopedist visit where I was basically told to suck it up while it healed. So I sucked it up until mid 2025 as it just kept getting worse. At that time I was told it was in my neck. After having THAT checked out with nothing found, I insisted upon re-evaluation in late 2025 (by a hand/wrist specialist). New x-rays showed 2 "non-unions" so a date was set for surgery. The surgeon decided he wanted an MRI just before surgery, and that showed 2 severed ligaments. During surgery, another severed ligament was found, as well as a pulverized bone. The ligaments were severed by constant rubbing against bone fragments. My wrist had 2 bones removed & 3 pins installed, leaving me with between 30 - 40 degrees of motion. Also, my pinky is in permanent "tea time" configuration, and I have hugely reduced use of my (right) hand. In short, see your doctor. Even if he or she says all is well, if something does not seem right, get a second or third opinion, and keep doing it until it is fixed or healed.
