Pullstart 71,452 #1 Posted 18 hours ago I haven’t had a recordable in quite some time. I was trying to drill out a stripped screw just now, and they say to drill without gloves for safety. Well the bit snapped, and somehow the broken end found its way about 1/2” into the side of my hand. The instant sharpness felt like I smacked my hand. Then I saw the cool part! Sorry, no impalement photo, I twisted that sucker out quick! Currently flushing and peroxide treating… luckily I have full mobility of my pinky and can feel with it too! 1
parsonsponyz 415 #2 Posted 17 hours ago Thank goodness you've not gotten nerve damage and still have mobility. Now to bite down on some leather and put whiskey on it, or is that the other way around. Take care and be careful.
rmaynard 17,616 #3 Posted 16 hours ago I can't tell you how many times I've tried to drill something or punch something or screw something that I was holding in my hand. You'd think that after at least 6 decades of doing dumb things I'd learn. I've got nothing recent, but here are scars from my two most memorable incidents. Red circle is where I was trying to push a pencil through a potato at age 12. There is still a black dot where the graphite remains. Green circle is where I pushed an 1/8" flat blade screwdriver through my hand when it slipped. That was when I was 45. There have been many more before and after. I'm lucky to still be alive. So, even though I've given you a hard time about safety, I too have done a lot of dumb stuff.
peter lena 10,098 #4 Posted 16 hours ago @Pullstart would definitely still have that checked out by a doctor , thats your OPPORTUNITY , my wife had a thumb bone removed , that had split , dr said , its critical to get a , medical , verification to statis , overall , function / feel . rather than have to literally go in , and repair a poor , healing set up . pete

You may want to think about getting a tetanus shot if it's been over ten years since your last one. 1

That would lock the spiral twist of the bit right in... 1

It would take much force to get it free, wether a pull or a smash…
ri702bill 13,239 #8 Posted 14 hours ago I, on the other hand (get it?), only wore my Wedding Band on social occasions. Working fabricating and assembling machines & automated equipment, it was too much of a safety hazard.

Ed Kennell 47,689 #10 Posted 13 hours ago 1 hour ago, Pullstart said: It would take much force to get it free Yep, the ring will stay on the finger. It's the finger that comes off. Nearly lost my index finger in 1964 when the ring hooked on the metal brace of a wooden ladder while I was sliding down fireman style. I put the ring back in it's case and left it there for 50 years. When I put it on it was too small for the index, but was a perfect fit on the pinky. 4
Beap52 2,516 #11 Posted 8 hours ago I haven't worn a wedding ring (or any other jewelry) in several years. For one, I got it caught more than once at work and we decided it wasn't worth the potential danger Also, as you can see I have dupuytren's contracture. There are supposed to be procedures to help but it doesn't hurt and I've been living with it for 25 or thirty years. Biggest hinderance is getting into tight areas to work. What has bit me more than once is impact drivers slipping off of screw head and doing damage. We will be married for 49 years this coming January. I suppose Pam will keep me around even without a ring.
c-series don 12,572 #12 Posted 8 hours ago I’ve been wearing my ring for 33 years even though my wife tells me not to! She says put it on if we go to a special event or something like that. I’ve had a few close calls for sure! Mainly I wear it to keep the ladies from constantly hitting on me 😜😂 3

Ronnie Lot had his pinky finger cut off instead of surgery so he could get back on the field faster just to play in a playoff game! Suck it up because the big show is more important than any playoff game! LOL
