Thegearhead0324 1,861 #1 Posted October 30 (edited) Good morning everyone. I just purchased a HY kit, probably over payed, but I saw it and noticed everything looked like it was there. I’ve always wanted to make my 1257 hydro lift. Description stated it will need a rebuild, I think @wheelhorseman sells these kits? Possibly new hoses as well? I’ve seen a few folks on here who have put them on their tractors with some modifications like shifter and mounting and cylinder, engine pulley/pto, and such, mostly intrigued about how to put some kind of double pulley behind the pto?. I guess I’m just asking for some suggestions and what you’ve done to make it all work. Thank you. Edited October 30 by Thegearhead0324
adsm08 5,216 #2 Posted October 31 My 855 came to me with one of these on it. I'm not sure how to set up your pulley at the engine since the K181 is pretty different from the 10 and 12HP engines. I will say that the hoses from WheelHorsePartsandmore are a little problematic with a manual transmission. Unless I remove the shifter knob they interfere with being able to use 2nd gear, and are still hair short, meaning I had to do some abrasion mitigation at the edge of the fender pan. The originals were hose crimped onto brake line and much thinner than the ones Lowell sells, which is why his can be an issue. The originals were also not built as robustly.
953 nut 69,952 #3 Posted October 31 @WHX?? and @sqrlgtr should be able to shed some light on the situation. They both have HY on their 1257s.
Thegearhead0324 1,861 #4 Posted October 31 I appreciate the reply’s back, in the middle of doing leaves this morning I was eyeballing my tractor and I think I may have figured out the pulley/pto situation, as I don’t want to hack and disturb too much, we will see. I won’t be starting this project for a bit since I bought the HY unit online and waiting to be shipped to me. Also I will be needing to rebuild it before mounting to the tractor. adsm08 5,216 #5 Posted October 31 When you buy the seal kit get extra pulley shaft seals. They are hard to install and easy to damage.

Was my bestest snow pusher last winter and would be hard to go back to manual lift now. I did make a new handle for lift, had a custom decal from redo your horse made and rebent the shifter for it though. Here is a few pics that might help ya along the way. 3

Thegearhead0324 1,861 #8 Posted Thursday at 09:37 AM I received the unit yesterday, pretty rough shape but I’m sure after going through it it’ll be ok, the very first thing I did was take the pump all apart, of course the return spring is broke and fought a little to get the pieces out of the holes, gears and everything else look ok, it looked like it sat for a while with water in it as it has some pitting but nothing crazy. At least I know what I’m working with now.
Thegearhead0324 1,861 #9 Posted 14 hours ago A quick question about the pump, I’ve seen the same thing on a couple other pics of pumps on here, but is it normal for the roll pin to be poking out that far? When I turned the control valve, it was hitting in the long threaded shaft and gear cover.
adsm08 5,216 #10 Posted 13 hours ago It needs to stick out some, because the hole is not blind so it has to be pulled out, but it should not hit the gear cover IIRC. I had issues with mine only working in one direction that drove me nuts for a while, and that was the problem.
Thegearhead0324 1,861 #11 Posted 4 hours ago Ok I appreciate it @adsm08 , I knew it needed to be poking out some because of removal, but thought that was kind of far since it was hitting when turning one direction.
