October 24,  1981 The “Chicken Dance” is introduced in the United States during the Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oktoberfest by the Heilbronn Band from Germany. They wanted to demonstrate the dance in costume but there were no duck costumes available anywhere near Tulsa. At a local television station, however, a chicken costume was available which was donated for use at the festival. And that is how the "Chicken Dance" got its name.

Jeez.  I feel old now.  I thought the Chicken Dance had been around for much longer than 1981.

Me too. then again everything that occurred less then fifty years ago all happened yesterday!     Wedding Receptions and some Celebrations of Life wouldn't be complete without a good Chicken Dance and the YMCA.
