Kinda like if I said I discovered the automobile in a Walmart parking lot. What happened to the Indigenous people after Europeans came here is fairly well documented but many have been trying to "whitewash" that history...

A LOT of new information comes out every year all across the many fields of science. 30 years ago we thought humans had been in the Americas for 8,000 years. We now know it's been at LEAST 23,000. Likely many more.
SylvanLakeWH 32,552 #7 Posted 21 hours ago Nothing to stir. Columbus Day is a governmental holiday. You are free to celebrate it or not, in any manner you wish or not. That’s what makes this Country unique. And something to be celebrated. Warts and all. Same with all the other days, weeks, months etc. for the myriad of events, causes and remembrances... Perhaps we could all look at things as NOT zero sum comparisons... Just a thought. 3

953 nut 69,374 #11 Posted 19 hours ago From the beginning of recorded history (and well before) groups of people have overtaken the lands and possessions of others. The "Indigenous" people who lived on Guanahni, the island in the Bahamas where Columbus actually landed on his first transatlantic journey, held slaves. These slaves were the looser in an unknown war where another tribe from another land took over the island. Many Native American tribes including the Maya, Aztecs and others kept prisoners of war as slaves. Columbus made four trips from Europe to The American cotenant landing in the Lesser Antilles, Trinidad, the North coast of South America, and the East Coast of Central America. There is no record of Christopher Columbus ever setting foot in the land now known as the United States. There is also no record of him displacing any inhabitant on the North American Continent. His navigational skills are worthy of recognition considering the lack of sophisticated interments. Do they deserve a federal holiday if you are a government employee I suppose you would think so. Seems to me that the people who erected statues in his honor in a land he didn't actually discover were not wrong in doing so, just a bit uninformed or overzealous, and those who tore them down on in the misguided belief that this would somehow make ammens for the inhumanity that took place over a period of about 300 years. Can't we all just get along and learn from the errors of our predassoras. 1 2

I can visualize @Achto sitting at a table at the tractor shows with a big poster that says: "Wheel Horse Tractors are the best... Prove me wrong." Of course, he'll need to be in his Capt'n's get up, bed pan hat etc. in order to be taken seriously... 1 3

Check (before global warming) Do we have any temperature data for 1492? Below the equator they are having global cooling because of the earth's axis has shifted away from them. The European Space Agency has noted a net growth of ice in the Antarctic region due to increased snowfall over the past half dozen years. Our planet has had some dramatic weather change over the years. During the 1970s we were facing the next ice age. The 1980s brought us the hole in the ozone layer. As soon a Dupont got R-12 eliminated by an act of Congress and everyone had to buy Dupont's new R-134 the concern for the hole was old news and the fear merchants went on to somethin else. Lately some of our elected leaders were proposing a huge sunscreen could be suspended in space to reduce global warming, guess these geniuses never heard of the important part sunlight plays in photosynthesis, you know, FOOD PRODUCTION. Many of the global warming "no fossil fuel" is the cause groups are finally acknowledging that the change in the tilt of the earth's axis is the primary cause of climate change. BUT, undaunted by evidence that seismic activity in the Pacific ring of Fire is causing the axis shift they have a new explanation. Industrialized nations are withdrawing too much water from North American and Chinese aquifers and the axis is shifting because of that. I've heard several reports that coral reefs are recovering in many places, Perhaps adding microplastics to their diet is contributing to it, who knows.
