Key switch

I’m in need of a new key switch for my Raider 10 with Tecumseh with no starting solenoid. Any have a replace ment that worked well for them.. here’s a pic of the old one.

If you were to add a starter relay, then you will be able to use most any key switch that has an M terminal.

There is a thread on here about someone converting their setup to use a starter solenoid and less expensive switch

I thought of that too. His are for a battery ignition not a magneto.

They are out there but yes $$. Couple of used ones on fleabay but a roll of the dice their any good.

It is always better to use a solenoid in the ignition circuit - it removes the heavy amperage load from the key switch and gives it to the better suited device. High amperage thru the key switch generates arcing & excess heat - both shorten its lifespan.

This is true. Since the bulk of my herd is early 60s SG tractors I keep replacement switches "in stock".

Less expensive, more reliable and gets the high amperage wires out from behind the gas tank. This drawing uses the 103991 ignition switch which can be found at any auto parts store.

When I restoed a 1067 PO had converted it to solenoid. I was on the fence about going back to original since I am a purist but what the heck it was considered a custom anyway so just cleaned up with new wiring. Good decision since it's a go to tractor.  Can then use the very common $10 four term switch and they last forever.

And that keeps the wiring short in length and tidy.

I added mine on the 854 by making up a plate and mounting to the tail of the S/G...

If you go with an original style high amp switch i would suggest replacing the old heavy stiff cables with awg 6 welding or super flex cables.  Much easier to wire and less stress on the  ignition switch
