bradleydavidgood 31 #6 Posted yesterday at 01:42 AM Do you think I need to remove these plugs and clean in there more? And if so, how do you remove them and reinstall the new ones? Thanks! https://youtube.com/shorts/pdnbI8F5Y1w?si=gKAmXrNJJqzEyqVq

Anyone else have an opinion about those? I'm most concerned with how easily the new ones go back in. Would hate to get them out and not be able to get the new ones in, or they don't seal properly. Anyone have experience with that? Thanks!

I watched a couple and would add a few points. Use a drill press with a down stop to prevent going too deep, it is easy to suddenly go too far with a hand drill. I use a very small amount of fuel resistant sealer on the edge, it acts as a lubricant and helps seal. Do not hammer in too far, it will begin to come loose when you go beyond flat.
bradleydavidgood 31 #11 Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Thank you all for those opinions and ideas! I think I'll watch some youtubes and decide after watching those if I want to do it. I don't have a drill press but I am good with slow and careful on the hand drill and have worked intricately many times with it on broken bolts and studs and stuff like that. Do you think carb cleaner gets thru those areas fairly well if you use a lot of it? Or it really needs to be opened up to clean it well? I'm not hearing anyone say that they needed to open the plugs to solve their carb issue. Thanks! Edited 6 hours ago by bradleydavidgood
bradleydavidgood 31 #12 Posted 6 hours ago On another note, the Kohler service manual (found on this site) I was looking at before for initial carb settings seems to be a Kohler made carb and looks different than my Walbro carb. I found this other carb manual that is for Walbro carbs with the same prefixes as mine of 47 053 XX. Mine is 47 053 95 and not listed in the manual but many others with 47 053 are listed and the drawings look exactly the same as mine. So I'm going to use this manual. bradleydavidgood 31 #14 Posted 5 hours ago I think I have a Walbro adjustable-main-jet carburetor. Because: An adjustable Walbro has three external adjustments: Idle-speed screw Low-idle fuel needle Main/high-speed fuel needle The main-fuel needle has a tapered tip and spring and can be gently turned clockwise until it seats. A fixed-jet Walbro has no external main-fuel needle—only the idle-mixture needle and idle-speed screw. Its main jet is a calibrated, nonadjustable jet inside the carburetor. If the dirt is large enough not to pass through the orifice and isn’t being dissolved by the cleaner there is no other option. 1 hour ago, bradleydavidgood said: My Main Fuel was set to 3/4 turns. Once running and following the guidance for adjusting, you might see up to ¼ turn difference. Edited 3 hours ago by Handy Don

When buying used all bets are off. Someone may have been compensating for a partial clogged carburetor or they were running gas with too much ethanol or additives. Just start with fresh gas and the factory recommendations, then adjust your warmed up engine from there.
