Onan P-216 Carburetors

Cleaning out of the shop today I found two used carburetors. One is from my 1996 416-H, the other is from a 416-8 that I stripped for parts. One has numbers 6100 146 0478, the other is 6100 146 0697. Not sure which is from which. Are there any difference they would make one more rebuildable than the other?

Not sure - but if they physically look the same - go with the one that has less throttle shaft wear.

@lynnmor.  I'd rather rebuild an OEM carb than buy a new aftermarket one.  They really aren't hard to clean and rebuild.

There is a significant difference between them.

The 146-0697 has this on the side:

The 146-0478 has this:

The newer one might have an accelerator pump, those aren't favored by many because they run lean and the pump might fail.  Look for the three sided cap on the side.  Rebuilding is rather easy if you don't need to remove the welsh plug(s).  rmaynard beat me while I was typing.   The smaller welsh plug hides the idle mixture screw on the accelerator pump models.

Yes. I would defiantly go without the accelerator pump one myself. The one without the accelerator pump looks a lot like the 520H carb I rebuilt a while back and they are an easy rebuild/cleanup. I would make sure I got a good USA kit if you can. I tried a chinisuem one but ended up going USA any way time I got done with it, (Gasket just didnt fit right on cheapy kit.)

Usually the only problem with these carburetors is debris and there is a good chance that no parts will be needed.  I have bought import kits for the base gasket, bowl gasket and welch plugs, the float needles often have sharp corners causing them to hang up.  Don't use intake to block gaskets from China.  I blast carburetor cleaner with a straw in each hole in the hope that the area behind the welch will be cleared, if I still have problems only then will I remove the plug.  I just priced the accelerator pump and carb kit from Onanparts.com, Onan was always high priced but they are now out of control.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to rebuild both and just keep them on the shelf until my Chinese replacement (currently working well) decides to take a dump.

Ive had a couple onans with the accelerator pump, both ran rich at idle, swapped with oem P220 carbs off ebay without that pump feature
