Missing the shift rail retainer on Suburban 551

On the Suburban 551 I saved, the gear stick just comes out.

Missing the shift collar. Looks to be part number 3514 maybe with a roll pin?

Are these available?

The 551 has a 2 piece 3007 trans. Is there a kit available for the refresh?

It may have come off in the tranny. Take picture down into the shifter hole, and let's see what's in there. Is the dog-point set screw still there?

Later 2 pc shifters have a small bead of weld to keep the collar retained and in the proper relationship to the ball end. Something to consider as part of the long term fix....

One of our vendors Wheel Horse Parts and More sells a braring and seal kit. 
Another vendor K & B Horse Parts probable has a good used shifter. Or JakeKuhn sell parts on eBay.

Retaining screw appears to still be there. I don't see any evidence of it being welded in the past. From the parts manual it looks like it used a roll pin to hold it in.

Your trans is a 5007...not a 3007 !!  Any Wheel Horse shifter will work...yours has a bend about 2 or 3" up.  Contact on of our vendors for a replacement...like A to Z.    One of our members may even have one and offer it here.  

Looking at the above picture, I would guess you are in 1st gear.

Thanks for the response. Looking at the videos of transmission rebuilds.

When it gets a little cooler, I'll look at flushing the trans.

I'm sure as long as it has been sitting, it will need going through.

Compiling a list of stuff needed.

This is really interesting. Thinking about the possibility of putting a single cylinder diesel engine on the Suburban 551. That would be really cool! Just looking at the dimensions of those engines if you removed the fuel tank and air cleaner if they would fit. Fun, just looking at different possibilities. Making up a list of needed parts.
