 September 2, 1945: Representatives from Japan signed the formal Japanese Surrender aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, officially marking the end of World War II. This day is celebrated as V-J Day (Victory over Japan Day)

Not so much anymore... ONLY RI recognizes it as a Holiday. A Bank Holiday, State, Town & Local Offices closed on a Monday in mid August.  About on the same level as Columbus Day in October - not all States celebrate it.

I will be pleasantly suppressed if the major TV networks' evening news gives any coverage of VJ Day,  probably not politically correct.
