8ntruck 9,159 #1 Posted 20 hours ago (edited) I've got damaged threads on the rear axle of EJ the 8N. Probably the best repair is a new axle and hub - however, that is the least convient repair. Steiner lists a 'Wheel Clamp Lock Nut' as a repair item for this issue. It is a 2 piece nut where one half is castleated and the other half looks like it threads over the castleated section on a tapered thread to clamp it in place. I would run a thread file over the damaged threads before installing the clamp lock nut. Has anybody here used such a thing? If so, how did it work. The job ahead of EJ is box blade and grader blade work in Ky. red clay type soil laced with roots and rocks. Later, there will be many, many, many yards of 4- crushed rock and 3/4" gravel to spread. T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,912 #2 Posted 14 hours ago I never seen one nor can attest to how well they work. Sorry. But, the good news is there should be plenty of used axles. I see 8Ns a lot in local junk yards.
