Looks like this gives excellent results.

Remember to hand plane the cylinder head for flatness too.

@Retired Wrencher  that  fuel,  oil related varnish , is the issue , 2 things  I changed to years ago ,  sta bil , enhances fuel cleaning  debris , another  major cleaner ?  zinc, been adding  rislone zinc , typically 2 to3 oz  to a fresh  oil change , also like the valvoline 10-30 VR1 flat tappet  oil , no smoke or varnish . repetitive problems , are  simply  something  I have to get after . after EVERY USAGE , I go after a regular check over  , for  FEED  BACK , HOW IS IT DOING ?  WHAT IS IT DOING ?  need a tweak ?  over 40 years , regular maintenance  , go to what makes it bombproof , my screaming pto neighbor , has no clue , pete

valvoline 10-30 VR1 flat tappet  oil

First I've heard of this product.  I wonder how the specs compare to the Rotella 30 wt?

@8ntruck  actually  its a very good , oil  made for older type engines , with  the latest  upgrades , thing I notice most is , operational , running ease , definitely  happier , smoother  , also  better on fuel for related usage . none of my engines , smoke  in any phase. near instant starts , very impressed  with its smooth  / quick response . no oil  usage at all , better  fuel  use , my experience , pete

Ive used both and have had good luck with both. The VR1 has a higher zinc content and is designed for run in flat tappet race engines (high rpm) and not as easy to find, around these parts anyhow.

I wouldn't knock yourself out looking for VR1 oil over Rotella.

These are lawn mowers. Not Indy cars or space ships!
