I aint no sissy but I find myself reaching for a pair of gloves every once in a while, especial the older I get. To my surprise there was a shed snakeskin on top of them today and I had them laying up on a table kinda higher up. I have a pretty good size Black snake that stays around the shop (rodent patrol) but hadn't seen him in a while but now I have proof he's still around at least I hope it was a Black snake. Funny thing was I picked up gloves and shook off snakeskin which fell in front of the fan, and it took off a getting it across the floor must still smelled like a snake cause it had the dog barking which in turn scared the $^it out of me because I was still looking fer a snake. .

I wish we had more serpents here.  🐍 

We could really use the rodent help and I do enjoy seeing them.  

 

Maine has no admitted breeding populations of poisonous snakes anymore having eradicated the timber rattlers. 

We do have garter snakes and several other varieties. The largest I've ever seen was a red brick type milk snake just over 3 feet long. Unfortunately it was too close to vehicles...

Reaching for proper PPE proves intelligence and reasoning.  I wear gloves. A LOT.

The theory I saw that makes the most sense is that the states do know the animals are there, but won't admit it because then they have to do a lot of extra work and spend a lot of extra money because of the protected status.

Having spoken to a Maine State Game Warden about the rattlers, mountain lions, and also wolves, another reason not to admit a known population is general public ignorance and fear. 

Admitting the presence of such animals could potentially have negative impact on tourism..... of people that quite possibly shouldn't be in the wild anyway.

We are allowed to hunt/trap bobcats in PA. You are allowed 1 per year. Cousin of a guy I used to work with regularly ended up catching more than 1 a year, and had to figure out how to let them go.

 

He ended up making this board, basically took a full sheet of OSB, cut a slot out to put over the cat's leg, and when he released the trap they'd just run.

Ol snowball was back but “Opie” was putting the hurt on him by the time I got off lawnmower. I pulled him off and hope he/she will be alright. He/she did make it back to shed where Opie couldn’t get to him. I was trying to get dog off of it and dog was swinging snake around and wrapped it around my leg bout lost my religion on that one.

I sure wish there was a video! LOL

 

I order snake skin molts off epay to use for rodent repellent. Works pretty good
