1996 Wheel Horse 314-8

Hi everyone!! I’m new to this forum and new to tractors in general. Recently fell in love with Wheel Horses. I would love if anyone here could give me some advice. My property 2 acre property has some slight hills and I have some light hauling projects (500lbs and less). I’m looking at a 314-8 with mower deck and snow blower for $1500. Starts up strong with no smoke. 1000 hrs. No rust. Oil and spark plug look good. As a newbie does this sound like a good idea? Thanks in advance for any advice or feedback!!! Have a great day!!

Sounds reasonable to me but I'm in that foreign country to the north.

It would be worth asking the seller to walk you through the removal of the mower deck.

Then ask if they would install the snowthrower. That way any loose pieces should not get missed and there are a few. Raising the thrower is assisted by a spring - armstrong without it since you have no hydraulic lift.

If you can get the model and serial numbers off each we should be able to link you to the correct manuals.

to the    It all looks clean in the pictures.  Has it been stored outside?    It would certainly be capable of handling the mowing and towing chores.

 

I personally prefer hydro transmissions and hydraulic lifts especially for snow removal.

 

$1500 seems a bit high.       A clean 300 series is 6-700     a good 42 or 48" deck  2-300     good tall chute blower  200

A properly maintained Wheel Horse will provide decades of service and this appears to be a pampered unit. While $ 1.500 seems to be strong money for a used garden Tractor, mower, and snow blower attachment you would be spending twice as much for a new Big Box comparable package that would need to be replaced in a few years.

Many of us use Wheel Horses from the 1970s and 1980s that are servicing like new and will continue to serve another generation or two.

For that coin, I would think you could find something with either more attachments, or some weights and chains on the tires, etc.  

 

It is a very nice looking tractor.  Let’s make sure the steering is tight, no funky noises in the engine, belt, clutch, transmission, etc.  If it was well maintained, the money put towards this for your 2 acre estate makes way more sense than a throw away mower from a box store!

    to Red Square.    Nice looking machine.  I will agree with what has been previously posted.  Seems to be top dollar for the tractor so everything should be in good working order.

Good eye Dan.  I missed that.     Just sold my Ber Vac for $400.
