C-145 dropping rpms on its own

My c-145 auto is dropping its rpms when the throttle is open. It mainly happens when I’m mowing or driving and I have to jam it up to have the deck cut right: note it is a 48in side discharge. Please help, all advice is appreciated

Your throttle control is a lever - correct?

Why it happens is the cable pulls on a spring connected to the governor arm to increase rpm. As the throttle is used to increase rpm the governor creates an opposing force to slow the rpm down. The higher the rpm the more force created by both.

To fix the problem the throttle lever requires more tension at the pivot. You can remove the control and try pinching the pivot rivet tighter to increase tension.

For a permanent fix remove the rivet and replace with a bolt with about 5/16"-3/8" of unthreaded shank. Add flat washers to take up the extra length and cut off what is not needed. Add a nylon insert nut that you use to adjust the tension required to hold the throttle in position at high rpm. The unthreaded shank in the pivot area reduces the wear on the moving parts. If there were threads there everything wears fast.

If the problem reoccurs in the future just go in with two wrenches and adjust.

So is it the governor spring that needs readjusted or something else because that spring controls how responsive the governor is. Please Correct me if I’m wrong

Wrong, read it again.  Put more drag on the throttle lever at the dash.
