C-81 oil leak.

  All new rigs that come here need something, so they all get a turn in the garage for fluids/grease and all that. 
  Well my new C-81 from the Wheel Horse Show had a pretty good oil leak that I didn’t notice at first. Showed up after a 20 minute drive.

  Turned out the fuel pump gasket was on UPSIDE DOWN! Had a new gasket here in stock and it was an easy fix. I don’t have a gasket for the carb to engine block as that one isn’t correct, but it does seem to seal.
 Any reason I need to do the carb gasket???

if you are going to run her long and hard you might want to get the correct gasket as it insulates the carb from engine heat.  Honestly I have several engines with whatever gasket i could find and haven't had issues but most are limited duty.

If you can get that one to reseal and set exactly where it was, it'll be fine for now.

Oh…and this repair was completed in my garage at 95 degrees

I grabbed this Horror Fright fan on the clearance shelf yesterday. Then got 15% off and used my $15 HF money as well!

Garage is 28’x36’ (1008 sq/ft) and not insulated…how big an AC unit ya think I need .

 I do have this industrial/oscillating fan cranking away…helps some.

  And before all the comments about “go boating” …the local lake is a zoo being a holiday weekend and they shut down the boat launch.

Plus my wife had knee surgery and she wouldn’t be able to climb in and outa the boat.

Mike - I agree it can be resealed - either with Permatex #2 - the non hardening stuff, or a smear of heavy grease.

FYI when I get a new to me WH and the carb is removed, I use the Permatex #2 to "glue" the new gasket to the engine and apply the light coat of grease to the carb mating flange. Makes carb removal easy down the road...

I'm stuck right at the northern tip between the 2 largest Finger Lakes. I take my dog for walks at the only State Park I don't have to pay on weekends. Dean's Cove. They have this large parking lot for the trucks and boat trailers. Plus a large grassy area. Last Sunday the trailers were parked along the highway there were so many boaters there. I'm not even going to try to go there tomorrow!

 I still chuckle when I think about that carb gasket on the C-81 you bought off me. Bizarre that it even fired and ran!

I got a 220 volt 24,000 btu (2 ton) window shaker in my garage. It only gets used if "I have to " be out there in heat like this.

 

That fan you have is sucking all the heat out of the rafters and blowing it all on you. Get  a barn fan on wheels at least and circulate the

" cooler"air on the floor.

@Sparky  close to 20 years on my  both  knees  being done , exactly  6  months apart total  joints , almost  comical today , 3 days in hosp , then 10 days in nursing home , learning how to walk , then home for  rehab work , most gained area , ?  using a roller stool  to pull / push  myself around . today  everything is  hour's and , home therapy . my wifes , thumb  split bone , was months , of  constant involvement  , helped any way  I could , hand is close to 100% , pete

That's about what we have in the workshop space. Permanently mounted in the back wall.  

10 x 40 ft. Very light insulation (the silver stuff).

The room is as airtight and rodent resistant as we could do. 

Because of my body issues I can't take the combination of heat and humidity. Anything above 80⁰ and mild humidity and I'm just absolutely spent.

Add one more to the oops list from the PO. It's only been a year - today - that I bought that C81 from you. It is going back together... The + and - wires on the coil are backwards... neither one of us spotted that! It has the hot wire going to the - terminal and the condenser & points wire going to the + terminal - and it ran!
