My Mothers Great Grandfather,  Corporal John Lighthorse Lee, fought in many Civil war battles including the final at Appomattox.

And as long as we are on the topic, let us not forget the contributions of Wilmer McLean, who hosted the first major battle, and the final surrender of the American Civil War.

Watching some natural fireworks as a thunderstorm rolls through here.    Strong NE winds, driving rain and the temp dropped from 92 to 72 in 30 minutes.

We got some heavy winds, and the trmp drop, but minimal rain.

When we got home from dinner it was whipping up pretty bad, so we flipped put trampoline,  and the neighbors' and grabbed all their stuff that looked like it might blow away and tossed it in their garage, since they weren't home.

I whipped this up after getting back from the family gathering today. Just imagine it with wind blowing the flag….

Happy Fourth of July!!!

The temp dropped a bit too here. Lately, it’s been a humid, scorching heat wave. It ended up being nice weather for a family gathering.

Yeah, it's been brutal here too. I like heat, but I am subject to the same physiological limits as everyone else. I'm good to 95, even with humidity, before I get uncomfortable. 100 seems to be my breaking point. It was 110 in my work area most of Thursday and Friday.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this before. Three consecutive days with afternoon temps over 100--102, 103, 102.

I did the summer version of hibernation.

Last night, the violent wind of a storm front took down two very tall white oaks in a neighbor’s yard. Lotta cleanup ahead there!

We tend to get at least one, usually two or three, of these events every year in July and August, with weeks of temps consistently above 90. I'm just not handling it as well as I did in my 20s.
