ML3 2,392 #1 Posted July 1 (edited) Going tomorrow to look at a 416H- about an hour away. Seller told me he purchased house & tractor was out in shed. He claims he had it serviced/inspected, oil change, new battery, new tires. Paint is a bit faded & he wasnt sure of engine hours. Supposed to run great & he has mowed with it but has another tractor (green🤫) that he prefers. Included w/tractor is mower deck, rear wheel weights, & front plow. He did admit that the hydro is "jerky" when going from forward to reverse or reverse to forward. Anything that I should really be looking for other than the typical things I already know to inspect? Lee1977 7,705 #2 Posted July 1 Could be wear in the cam and cam plate. My 520 had a notch wore in the cam when I got it. I would have to hit the brake to get it out of reverse. I replaced both . 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
cjb398 39 #3 Posted July 1 Reversing direction on my 416-H can be jerky if I am careless with my shifting. I have the steering column mounted shifter, and with the need to push down going into reverse and letting the shifter rise up when moving to forward, there can be a sudden reverse of direction that can be characterized as a jerk. Just the nature of the shifting linkage. If you pay attention and shift deliberately and smoothly, there is no jerk. Chuck Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
