FLtractor 184 #1 Posted Tuesday at 01:27 AM Evening, While researching and learning about Kohler engines, I came across this, unaware that Kohler still made small engines. anyone have experience with this one or similar modern Kohler engines? How do they compare say to those harbor freight predators and or The genuine Honda 200s those are based off of? https://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/sh270-3142?setCurrencyId=1&sku=SH270-3142&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=22419493833&utm_content=&utm_term=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pmaxbriggs&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22429555384&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgt293ZmclQMVnXV_AB3owjxMEAQYASABEgIrivD_BwE

No comparison whatsoever. 3

What’s makes the original so much better? American made.. thicker block? Better components?

If you are dead set on replacing any engine and don't care about it being original, just go to Harbor Freight, they're all pretty much the same basic design with similar power output. I have used a few of the clone engines over the years but only on equipment that I couldn't find an original style engine or the cost of rebuilding was too much; it was hard to beat the $99 price tag years ago to replace an engine on a seldom used rototiller. If you can keep the original Kohler engine going, that's what I'd aim for, but I understand that everyone and every situation has its limitations. There is a lot of knowledge here on this forum and willingness to talk you through.

Any idea how much I’d have to pay for it to be rebuilt if I did need it in future? Any idea on average time frame with parts available these days?
