Where to get 520-HC Fan gear and shaft gear

Recommended Posts

two.intense@hotmail.com

Hello All, I just joined this Group and I would appreciate any information.

I have a 520-HC and I have broken a tooth off my Fan gear.

I accidently got to close to my retaining wall and caught my left front tire, which in turn jerked my steering wheel, and seemed to have broken the top tooth off my Fan gear (found broken tooth near area on tractor).

Now it just clicks when putting pressure to turn. I made sure the collar is all the way up putting downward pressure on the shaft, and the Fan gear is tight against the steering shaft gear.

Does anyone one know where I can get replacements? or should I try welding and filing it?

Much Appreciated

The 520HC uses the same steering gear as the non gear reduction swept front axle 520H that I think was produced in 1990.

That may widen your search a bit.

If you can weld, most any fan gear from other machines can be used since no reduction steering was used. The difference is in the tab for the tie rods. Same for the upper steering shaft. In your case they can be used as well.

Just cut the shaft ahead of the gear and match the original length. Can be butt welded directly or by using a 3/4 ID steel spacer as a centering collar.

Absolutely - but the key is in the fixturing to produce a finished part that is identical as the original...

I'm not sure but the main difference may be the bent triangle plate for clearance of the larger tierod ends.

I have used 1/2" heims joints and just attached to the back side of the triangle plate no my 300, C-120 and 89 520,  don't see any difference in steering.
