Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

Steve Colley

,I did an engine swap from a 414 8 to my 417 A. because the engine lost compression. I broke the larger pulley on the Kohler 17hp. trying to get it off. I had to use the smaller pulley on the Kohler 14 hp.  I had to get a 2" smaller belt because of the smaller pully. It still works fine for mowing, just a little slower. I would like to find the larger 5" pulley for a little more speed. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Some sources.

https://a-ztractor.com/  Best to call to see what he has.

Or if you are so inclined, a 4.5hr trip to the Wheel Horse Collectors Club show in Bigglerville PA might find you with the correct part & then some.

A friend & I are making a 14hr pilgrimage to the show. :)

Given that you're running the smaller pulley, I would strongly suggest you run that 14hp at full throttle any time you move that tractor. Hydros require a certain RPM to function properly, which is why the 5.25 front pulley is used.

Even with the larger pulley, the manuals all recommend a minimum of half throttle or more for hydro operation. I'm sure someone here can give the exact RPM difference but better safe than sorry.

Welcome.   Post an ad in the wanted section of the classifieds.  Someone has the pulley you need.
