Sorry for confusion of a question… what I ment to ask is … how do I know if starter generator itself is working properly … and if it’s not.. what does it cost usually to have rebuilt (told before as with engine best to have orginal rebuilt or repaired instead of replacing)

You need to tackle one issue at a time, and the fact that you keep trying to go after all of them at once is why your issues seem so large. You need the engine to run before you can assess the generator. If it cranks that is a good sign. There is a set of contacts you can jump momentarily inside the regulator and it will make it crank, cycle the key to the start position and back off again to make it stop. I'll get a picture later.

It will crank.. but still diagnosing the run part.. will have to wait till Sunday to do the squirt fuel into carb while turn key to see if it fires and ignites temporarily. Ok you’re right. I was thinking about how would it be a waste of time if starter generator bad while spending all this time on engine .. but given their two different systems.. make sense. Given the tractor has sat for the last year while I’ve worked off and on various issues with it.. would it make any difference to use some marvel mystery oil to help the cylinder since it has sat in same spot for a year? adsm08 4,595 #32 Posted 8 hours ago Marvel is fine, but if you don't have a stuck piston it probably won't do much. Won't hurt either, but won't do much. Did you ever get around to finding out if your issues is fuel or spark?

adsm08 4,595 #34 Posted 4 hours ago (edited) OK, as promised, pictures from inside the regulator. The regulator cover is removed by removing the two screws and lifting it. In this picture the front of the tractor is at the left side of the frame. If you close the set of contacts circled in red, by pressing them closed, or bridging them with a screwdriver, the engine will start to crank, and keep cranking, regardless of key position, if the S/G unit works. The cranking can be stopped by turning the key the whole way to the start/crank position and then turning it back off again.
