Retired Wrencher 6,792 #1 Posted June 11 i’m giving this JB weld a try. It is muffler cement It had a big crack at the base about half way around. I have some big wire wheels and I brush the heck out of it clean it up the best I could and then I applied the muffler cement. Let’s sit overnight and this is the way it turned out once I got the engine running I guess time will tell if it’s gonna last right now. It seems to be pretty stable. ri702bill 12,495 #2 Posted June 11 (edited) If you reincorce it with some 2x2 aluminum screen patch(es), it limits movement & works well. I did just that to repair an annoying porosity in my C81 K181 block behind the starter. (it was at the casting parting line). That was 6 or so years ago, still no leak. RED-Z06 2,718 #6 Posted June 17 My big Simplicity has a narrow area of rot in thr top of the muffler canister, its not structural but i wire wheeled it, soaked in 30% vinegar, wire wheeled, ive tried 6 different products including this one.
