8ntruck 9,021 #2 Posted June 8 The Challanger made an overnight stop in Sedalia, Mo. We were living there at the time. We started east of town and watched it roll by, beat it back to town and watched it pull into the siding in town. The Big Boy went through Sedalia maybe 20 years ago. Was working. I saw the smoke, but not the locomotive. Those big articulated locomotives are impressive machines. There is one in the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit on static display. Always enjoy seeing it when I visit there - also the Ford GT 40 that Dan Gurney drove at Le Mans. We had a Finish exchange student for a year. The Henry Ford Museum was one of the places we visited. When we came upon that car, he asked what it was. I told him it was a Ferrari killer. An effective taunt, as he was a Ferrari fan and didn't hold Fords in high regard. 4
stevasaurus 23,738 #3 Posted June 8 I keep adding to my post. The last video is the schedule of the Big Boy...it is worth it if you get that chance to see it. Tell me what you think if you get to see it. The Steam Whistle is worth it.
ebinmaine 79,526 #4 Posted June 8 Cute lil' thing ain't it... I do enjoy steam trains but they're not exactly common in New England. Mt Washington has one for the Cog Railway. Other than that I'm not at all sure when I've seen one.
squonk 47,286 #5 Posted June 8 Supposedly going through the Horseshoe Curve. But I heard the live feed camera is going to be turned off. Haven't gotten confirmation on that yet. 1
adsm08 4,751 #6 Posted June 8 I was hoping to see it as it ran between Harrisburg (Enola yard) and Scranton (I think), but after reviewing the route there are pretty much no good places where I won't have to camp out for days ahead of time to get a good view.
ML3 2,375 #7 Posted June 9 (edited) Saw it today. Incredible to see it up close. RxR tracks come through property at work so we were able to get pretty close as it went by. Nice cause of area being private property nobody from the public was there VID_20260609_110952.mp4 Edited June 9 by ML3 5
Beap52 2,341 #8 Posted June 9 A few years ago I just missed seeing the Big Boy when we took the Arkansas to Missouri train tour. (It's a one day outing from Missouri to Arkansas, spent a few hours in Springdale, Arkansas then ride back to Missouri.) The Big Boy was scheduled to arrive shortly after we departed. Some folks on our train stayed overnight in Springdale and returned to Missouri the following day. We have also rode the Durango to Silverton steam train in Colorado. Beautiful ride. Last year we rode the Arcade and Attica Railroad in Arcade, New York. Steam (that they just spent a potfull of money on rebuilding the engine) and a nice little ride. I believe the train was owned buy the local townspeople. Super friendly folks. We rode a train when we took a cruise to Alaska. It was a pleasant ride (and a fellow has to find a way to spend his time on daily tourist town stops). A trestle bridge (first photo) in my layout (middle photo) in the basement was inspired by that ride. One of the most memorable rides was in Thailand. We toured the "Bridge over the River Kwai." Wife and I hired a private tour guide and driver. We visited the museum and cemetery, walked across the bridge, ate lunch on a floating open air restaurant on the river then rode a train one-way whereas our driver picked us up. The photo is black and white because my camera took all the pictures on this trip with bluish color. This is part of the railroad along the river. The 4014 will be passing within 2 hour's drive--maybe I can at least watch it pass by. I watched a video of it being rebuilt and it was very interesting. 2

c-series don 12,063 #21 Posted 10 hours ago (edited) I can’t get enough of seeing that train. When I see that locomotive it makes me proud to be an American. I wish I was standing there waving our flag as it rolled by. Imagine the sense of pride the people operating and just being a part of that must have. I’d love to experience that. God Bless this great nation of ours 🇺🇸 Edited 8 hours ago by c-series don

There is something inspiring about seeing a 1.2 million pound machine capable of running 80 mph rumbling across the USA. Same feeling I get standing on a Grand Coulee head cover while the single hydro turbine below is generating 1 million HP. I planned to be in Altoona when the Big Boy rolled in, but Mrs. K couldn't make the trip. Waiting for a knee replacement. Thank Goodness for all the great vids.
