FLtractor 170 #1 Posted June 2 (edited) Evening, Went to start 856 today after new battery.. old then brand new non ethanol fuel.. brand new fuel lines.. filter.. electric fuel pump.. new aftermarket carb.. newly wired and brand new ignition.. has spark.. but tractor wouldn’t even attempt to run other than just turning over from key.. issue most likely the carb needing fuel and air screws adjusted keeping it from running? Also noticed fuel leaking from the brass fuel pump fittings (ideas to stop this fuel pump leak? Never had fuel or even been hooked up and ran from battery before- first time ever) and from newly replaced under tank fuel valve.. and noticed a liquid (fuel?) every so often dripping from the muffler, just a drip every now and then when turning key attempting to get started with engine turning over but no combustion happening. Why would it be dripping from there? Edited June 2 by FLtractor
Ed Kennell 46,227 #2 Posted June 2 Does it have compression? Exhaust valve not closing?
953 nut 66,628 #3 Posted June 2 (edited) If you have fuel dripping from the muffler it is also leaking into the crankcase diluting your oil. time to rebuild the carburetor and do an oil change. Edited June 2 by 953 nut 1
pfrederi 20,675 #4 Posted June 2 What pressure fuel pump did you use. It may have over powered the float valve in the carb. How did you verify spark? Was the plug wet after you cranked it for a while. May be really badly flooded. 1
peter lena 9,901 #5 Posted June 2 @FLtractor been using carbole electric pumps for years 2- 3.5 PSI no issues at all , pete

With the 2 straight fittings. used spark plug light bulb tester to Verify spark. didnt pull spark plug after. Was getting dark and went in for evening. Don't forget that a failure of the fuel pump diaphragm will put the whole contents of the tank into the crank case real quick.

The neon bulb spark testers can show flash but not sufficient to fire the plug. Is this a new spark plug? You might swap out another plug (especially if the plug in there is a Champion they will sometimes fail to fire under compression)

What are the chances of a brand new never ever ran before aviation grade fuel pump diaphragm failing and that happening?

It be best to throw it away since it most likely got flooded and wet? Any other brand or # you’d recommend instead of champion that won’t fail as often? I was talking about the mechanical pump that the electric one presumably replaced.
