Brian Mummert 5 #1 Posted 3 hours ago Hi everyone. Just brought home a 418-8 (original owner recently past). Needs some obvious maintenance (sitting for a year, but turned over). The fuel line needs replaced . When replacing, has anyone put a fuel filter on the line. And if so, where did you put it? I have a 416-8 K Series and put one on which was easy. Also, after reading other threads, what oil to put in transmission/gear box?. Do not operate in winter. Thanks in advance for thoughts. Brian M.
ebinmaine 78,945 #2 Posted 3 hours ago That definitely should already have a fuel filter. We don't run any twin cylinders here but have had them around. The fuel filter was located near the fuel pump close to the battery tray. Transmission fluid is pretty much any 80W to 90W base with up to 140. These transmissions are tough. Doesn't matter what brand. We use cheap wally world gear oil.

953 nut 66,217 #4 Posted 2 hours ago A Kohler Magnum Twin with an eight speed is one very strong machine. Since you don't know much about the previous owner's maintenance changing all the fluids and fuel line is a good idea. The fuel pump is located on the top of the engine and if you have to crank it over for a prolonged period to have it start you may want to consider an electric fuel pump located lower than the tank, did wonders for my 418.
