Just a quick question, do you have to remove the oil fill dipstick tube in order to remove the starter? 1989 c-414, kohler M 12. Thank you

 Yes, though someone on here has probably managed to do so without removing it. Now that I have given a definitive answer somebody has to controdict it.

Yes, and due to the tight clearance to the starter 12v. lug, I install a rubber sleeve on the fill tube to provide insulation.

The 5-cylinder in the Colorado was even worse.

 

Same stupid spot, much harder to remove the intake.

Thank you everyone, I sort of figured that it had to come off, now for the next question will oil come out if you take said fill tube off without draining engine oil? Thanks

The oil level should be below the dip stick housing. Should be able to remove it with out leaking oil.
