Fj40z 61 #1 Posted yesterday at 07:47 PM (edited) Possibly picking up a C160 tomorrow from supposedly the original owner. Says it runs and mows beautifully, no smoke from motor. Would love some input from all you gurus on here since I’m just starting to get my feet wet. Definitely a replacement fuel tank with questionable mounting that even I can see. A later replacement deck, obvious replacement seat, maybe a later rear end also? Any input is certainly appreciated! Sparky-(Admin) 25,316 #2 Posted yesterday at 07:51 PM Fuel tank and the mounting setup is all original. The 48” deck may or may not be the same vintage. Same with the rear transaxle…not sure why you are thinking it’s not original. Unless the seller has told you that?

Yes, he did tell me he replaced the mower deck sometime in the mid 90’s. He did not mention anything about the rear transaxle. Sure do appreciate the input! kpinnc 18,273 #5 Posted yesterday at 09:07 PM Another C160 in NC? Well done. I hope you can get it! Do NOT let @ebinmaine drive down and beat you to it. He has plenty of C160s! 1
AlexR 2,883 #6 Posted yesterday at 09:19 PM Yep I'm with the others on all that. I'm also going to take a guess on the year I think it's a 1974 If you get the tractor take a close up photo of the tag right above the lift handle assembly, and we can tell the year for sure.
rjg854 13,053 #7 Posted yesterday at 09:25 PM That looks like a comfortable seat, and by the patina, I think she might not have had a nice stall to rest in.
JoeM 9,954 #8 Posted yesterday at 09:55 PM Whats the plan? Looks like great bones. There are seats around and with the Big Show coming up the is bound to be one there if you know someone that might go?

Fj40z 61 #15 Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Thanks a million for all the helpful input! The plan if it checks out in person is to bring her home and use it as is for a while. I will be on the hunt for a head light assembly and checking out it out mechanically. Then long term goal is to slowly restore it with my boys. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for a correct seat but as comfy as the one on it looks I’ll wager it stays on there for a long while. Will be a good project for them as they are both into things like this and use it to teach them how to take care of things. I much prefer older well made things than all the new garbage that’s made today, not just tractors but pretty much everything. They are both super excited about it and can’t wait. Thor27 888 #16 Posted 19 hours ago That's definitely a newer deck, by the round stock around the bottom and 3 anti scalp wheels on the front I'd guess 1990ish or later. Big improvement over original double d deck imho.

Fj40z 61 #23 Posted 3 hours ago Home and unloaded. She runs really good, mows fantastic. Took it straight to some pretty thick grass and it barely even loaded up going through it and cut very clean. When I got there I was pleasantly surprised that most of the original paint is actually there. All the pics made the hood and fenders look like rusted steel. Don’t get me wrong there’s several places where the paints worn off but I believe I can get the old paint to clean up decent. Seller had very recently done a full service and replaced both rear axle seals not long ago as well.
