8ntruck 8,864 #2 Posted 23 hours ago I'd guess 1998 day 165. That comes up as Sunday, June 14, 1998. Sunday production of a garden tractor tire seems unlikely to me, but is entirely possible. Then again, the number between the 1 and 5 could be an 8. This would make the build date Saturday, July 4, 1998 - even less likely. I guess I dunno.
ineedanother 2,356 #3 Posted 23 hours ago I could be wrong too but think the older tires used to use 3-digit codes. 16th week of 1995. Later years were 4-digit codes.
8ntruck 8,864 #4 Posted 7 hours ago DOT started requiring the manufacturing date on tires in 1971 with a standard format. Initially, this format was a 3 digit code - first 2 digits were the week of the year, the last digit was the last digit of the year produced. In 2000, DOT specified that the last 2 digits of the year produced instead of only the last digit of the year. Given this information, I'll make another guess that the tire is older than 1971 and using whatever dating system that General was using at the time.
