Confuzzled 1 #1 Posted Monday at 06:43 PM hello all. I have a 314-8 with a 37" side discharge mower deck and a rear bagger. Bought it new in the 90's and it's still running! Used to buy these blades that were very expensive that had a metal flange bolted to the one that was closest to the chute... blade kit 115084. From what I've been able to figure out, this is discontinued. Unfortunately, I need new blades and am wondering what I can use to replace these with. Does anyone have any recommendations? Yes, I should ask at my local dealer but I'm kind of not happy with them right now. And it's a holiday here in Ontario so everything is closed. Thought I'd do some research and figure out whether I can save some $$$ on this. whatever it is needs to be 18.5" long or close to that with a 3/4" hole. the 115-9649-30 Toro high flo blade kit says they are 20.5" long and that will be too big. There's a bunch of not-toro brands out there which are way cheaper but can't seem to find anything within those specs. This one is for Cub Cadet but seems to be the right sizes? Can't really afford to put something wrong on there and completely blow up my mower deck. Anyway, I'm running around in circles here while the grass keeps growing longer. If anyone is in a similar predicament and you have a solution, I would be so grateful to hear what you did? Short of building your own blades, that is. Thanks in advance!
ACman 7,722 #2 Posted Monday at 08:16 PM (edited) As long as the specs are the same you should be good even though they say they are for a Cub Cadet/MTD . Just make sure the blades look similar. For instance are the blades flat all the way across or do they have step down in them . I had bought a used mower and it mowed beautifully but I couldn’t figure out why it was mowing so low even when I raised the deck . On further inspection the blades cutting edge were stepped down 1’ from the mounting surface . I just went through the Oregon catalog until I found the correct flat blade with all the right specs . I have been using Oregon blades for decades . Hope this helps . Edited Monday at 08:27 PM by ACman
Confuzzled 1 #3 Posted Monday at 08:58 PM Thanks! I just wish I could see these live and in person, so I can judge and measure for myself. I'll write down the model number and see what's available in stores (if any) tomorrow.
ACman 7,722 #4 Posted 13 hours ago (edited) There’s a flat blade made for a Simplicity that’s 18.5” s long but the 5/8” mounting hole would have to be drilled out to 3/4” . Typing in Toro 37” side discharge deck blades I came across these.https://8tenparts.com/products/8ten-810-cbl2678d-2pack?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22561205461&gbraid=0AAAAAobQK4H1yryNfUhLml57v4jrIU7x_ Edited 13 hours ago by ACman
Confuzzled 1 #5 Posted 8 hours ago Thanks ACman! I took a look at what was on the shelves today and there wasn't anything that I thought was a good fit. So I just ordered these ones you suggested as the price was comparable to some I saw in the shops, only they were 19 or 20". Most of them were mulcher types and while that's OK, not sure how that would work with the rear bagger. I was sort of concerned about those Cub Cadet ones not being flat, as you said. Might make it difficult to judge cut height. I'll let you know how they work out.
lynnmor 8,806 #6 Posted 6 hours ago The bagger depends on high flow blades, at least the exit side, to provide the air flow to the bag. If you could post a photo of the exit side blade perhaps someone here might have a suggestion.
Confuzzled 1 #7 Posted 3 hours ago Sorry Lynnmor, the old blade I have is uh... really old. I mean it's been in a pile of scrap metal for a while now and wouldn't give a very good idea. I was just using some non-lofted blades and not getting very good results. But I can't sharpen those ones again. I googled the part number from my manual and places like this said it was discontinued. It's how I found this site, actually. Here's a photo that someone uploaded here. It kind of looked like the one in the drawing, except it was flat. The one with the extra piece bolted on goes on the side for the chute to the bagger. Looks like there's a lot of "high loft" blades out there now that are one piece of metal so I guess I might have to buy a few over the years until I find the right ones.
