953 nut 65,847 #1 Posted 17 hours ago May 16, 1984, Prince's biggest hit is widely considered to be "When Doves Cry," released on May 16, 1984 from the Purple Rain album, which became his first #1 single, the year's top-selling song, and a massive international success, famously lacking a bassline and showcasing his unique genius. 1 1 3
ebinmaine 78,659 #2 Posted 17 hours ago I wasn't a huge fan of his pop music but he sure was one of the great musical innovators.
clueless 3,400 #3 Posted 16 hours ago For me he was the most talented entertainer in my life time (so far). Singer, writer, produce, could play every instrument on his songs and the best part was his concerts were equal to none and I've seen them all, from Elvis and Frank to Metallica. Least we forget he could dance backwards in 6 stilettos inch heels .

I never really got into the '80s music at the time but have begun to listen to a lot of it lately. The radio station that was playing '60s and '70s music when I move to Franklin twenty years ago is now playing '80s and '90s tunes and most of it is great. Prince, Queen, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Kurt Cobain, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have all won me over.

That describes the "Elevator Music" played over the P.A. at a local Supermarket to a tee....
Achto 31,752 #6 Posted 2 hours ago Back in the late 80's early 90's I would have never admitted that Prince's music was any good. My tastes ranged from AC/DC to Hank Jr., Michael & Prince were NOT on the play list. Now many moons later I can admit that the man had talent unmatched by few.
