pfrederi 20,448 #26 Posted 1 hour ago I have a KT17 Series 1 came from a JD 317 that my brother picked up used. It had over 2000 hours on the meter when he swapped it out as it was leaking badly on the crank seals. He lived in the country and mowed several acres not flat...He kept it full and a bit more because of the leaks. Then it sat for 10 years or so I got it swapped some tins replaced crank seals and she still runs. Tired yes, and smokes on start up but no crankcase vent additions. Look Kohler made thousands of these and they had a higher than normal failure rate but they didn't all blow up. Keep the oil full don't mow ditches and it will probably run a long time.
