Easton Rich 1,166 #1 Posted Sunday at 08:10 PM This is my L-155 I bought last year in the spring. It started and ran just fine until July when I was unloading it at a show. It started and ran fine, but died and never restarted. I thought it was either the ignition or the starter. Is it this diode board? Can I delete it and add a solenoid instead? 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 12,213 #2 Posted Sunday at 08:22 PM That board has nothing to do with starting. Battery charging only so the addition of a solenoid will not fix it. The magneto ignition is self powered and the wire going to the ignition switch simply grounds the magneto coil to shut it off. Adding a solenoid would remove the heavy starting load on the ignition switch and a good idea to keep the expensive switch working.

A gasoline engine needs air, fuel, compression, and ignition. Knowing what is missing will help with a diagnoses. You also mentioned that you thought it may be the starter. Are you unable to turn the engine over with the starter? 3 1
Easton Rich 1,166 #5 Posted yesterday at 02:14 AM I have fuel and spark with a new battery. The starter is a no go. I took it apart and it was pretty cracked and broken. I'm considering looking for a recoil. I also bought a used ignition that I've confirmed works.
pfrederi 20,437 #6 Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM How are you testing for spark? The neon testers will often flash but the current is inadequate to fire the plug. (also have you tried a new plug) Just laying the plug on the head is also not a great test, plug may fire there but not under compression. Does she at least sputter when you spray some carb cleaner in her and try to start it>?? 1
Easton Rich 1,166 #7 Posted 22 hours ago Nothing. I've laid it on the head, and tried a new plug. I don't think it would just give out like that though? I'm looking for a recoil for it, but I can't find one.
pfrederi 20,437 #8 Posted 20 hours ago You said you had fuel and spark in a post above. You do not need a recoil. There is a rope pull setup on the tractor in the picture when you pull it over do you feel compression?.. As pointed out above you need fuel, compression, and spark (at the right time.) Easton Rich 1,166 #9 Posted 20 hours ago Yeah, but I went and cleaned the carb, and tried rope starting again with no luck. I'm also struggling with my 502 that also has a H60. These Techys are a whole new ballgame

The HH60 in my (sold) Lawn Ranger was a good ‘un, as is the H60 on my walk behind snow blower.
pfrederi 20,437 #11 Posted 6 hours ago You have fuel (sprayed in) You saw spark and you felt compression when you turned it over. The last factor would be if the spark is at the correct time. Many Teckies used a soft aluminum flywheel key. if it is deformed the spark timing will be off. Maybe when your electric starter failed it momentarily jammed the flywheel deforming the the key.
