squonk 46,408 #27 Posted May 4 Still take the hound to the lake every day so it's a 10 -15 mile round trip. My to do list is my own. Paint the fence and porch trim. My to do list from her: Rip out all of the weed paper and weeds out of the garden! 2
rjg854 13,024 #28 Posted May 4 It's just money, they make more of it every day. What's more important leaving money in your pocket or seeing friends and having a good time. THAT only comes once a year. How do you put a price on that? A few less trips to Starbucks and you'll make up any difference. 5 1

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,626 #34 Posted May 6 I was considering not hauling my rather large toyhauler and get 8-10 mpg but what the hell we only live once. If it means having to sell a few parts to make up the extra few bucks in fuel so be it. I am probably going to haul it down a few days early and stay at a campground in Gettysburg area and do the battlefield tours. 6

Have to try to keep the torch going , and if guys back out because of fuel unfortunately there will eventually be no show . I will be heading down Wednesday morning despite the diesel fuel costs .
Ed Kennell 45,985 #37 Posted May 7 Comparing 1967 to 2026 USA average gasoline price and USA average income, both increased just over 13 times. It's all relative folks. 1
WHX?? 56,511 #38 Posted May 7 True Ed. If it goes up slowly one doesn't seem to notice. When it goes up this much overnight that's the whammy.
953 nut 65,856 #39 Posted May 7 When the bird flue struck a couple of years ago the price of eggs went from under $ 2.00 a dozen to nearly $ 5.00 in a few days. After a new flock of laying hens had been raised the price came back down, I paid $ 1.50 for a dozen the other day. The same is true for fuel prices, a disruption in the world wide supply chain changes prices. The Arab Oil Embargo of 1973 was a result of the USA support of Israel during the Yom Kippur War. and relative to inflation our gas prices reached today's $ 4.00+. The prices went even higher during the 1979 Arab Oil Embargo which was the result of the Iranian Revaluation. The 2008 financial crisis brought us actual prices above $ 4.00 a gallon for Gas. The Russia - Ukraine war brought us national average prices of $ 5.00+ (includes Hawaii and California prices) in 2022. None of these were long lasting and we survived them all.

Ed Kennell 45,985 #46 Posted 9 hours ago Like Dislike Mount Davis, at 3,213 feet (979 meters), is the highest point in Pennsylvania. Mount Davis is located in Somerset County within the Forbes State Forest, near the hamlet of Markleton and roughly 10 miles west of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania Wikipedia+1. The mountain sits along a 30-mile ridge known as ***** Mountain, which extends southward into Maryland Wikipedia+1. Named after John Nelson Davis, an early settler and naturalist, Mount Davis was officially recognized as Pennsylvania's highest point in 1921, replacing Blue Knob as the previously believed peak Wikipedia.
Brockport Bill 2,327 #47 Posted 5 hours ago am soon about to go to gas station to fill my 4 gas cans for the herd with Ethanol free gas -- ouch!!!! The per gallon $$ is high !!!! -- but looking at increases in the 401k Deferred comp fund accounts easily exceeds higher gas costs - life is always a balance ! 1

The Sam's Gap pass from NC to TN on I-26 is only 3760 feet but you are on a continuous grade of 6% for nearly nine miles. Then you get into Virginia and have quite a few long grades to contend with.
