Skwerl58 814 #1 Posted yesterday at 07:42 PM I rewired my 1054 to "Solenoid Ignition" 3 years ago. I went to start it and the electric fuel pump kicks on but no go on the starter generator. I checked the solenoid and finally jumped it and it fired right up. I went and picked up a new Rotary solenoid and installed it and have the same problem. No starting but can hear the fuel pump running. Anyone have any idea where I should do next to try to get it going. I have checked connections, cleaned key switch, just looking for some help. Thanks!
ri702bill 11,778 #2 Posted yesterday at 07:56 PM Check for power at the small solenoid wire with the key in the "start" position. Are you using a 3 or 4 terminal solenoid?? A 3 terminal grounds thru the mounting bracket, a 4 terminal requires one of the small terminals to be grounded to complete the "pull in" circuit...
Skwerl58 814 #3 Posted yesterday at 08:46 PM The small terminal wire goes to the switch. Like previously wired, 2 large terminals and the smaller terminal
ineedanother 2,013 #4 Posted yesterday at 08:57 PM You're either not getting 12v from the switch to the small terminal when you turn the key to start, or your solenoid isn't grounded (or you have a bad solenoid).
953 nut 65,158 #5 Posted 23 hours ago When you did the rewire did you put in any fuses? Could be a bad fuse. Your wiring should look like this.
Skwerl58 814 #6 Posted 22 hours ago 953 nut that is the diagram I used. I did install a fuse and it is good. Will re check grounding and make certain of voltage on the small wire. If these check out will try to swap out another solenoid.
Skwerl58 814 #7 Posted 7 hours ago I have cleaned grounds and checked voltage at the small wire which is 12.3 and no click or anything. It seems odd to me that my old solenoid and a new do the same thing but that is what makes them faulty. Just thinking out loud but would the ignition switch be part of the issue or no since voltage does reach the small wire while turning the key. Could it be another circuit from the switch
pfrederi 20,234 #8 Posted 7 hours ago Run a temp jumper from Batt + to the small solenoid terminal...does it work then. maybe sufficient resistance in the ignition switch to prevent enough juice getting to the solenoid to trigger it.
Skwerl58 814 #9 Posted 3 hours ago Pfrederi Thanks for the tip. I tried it and no response from the solenoid. My local parts store has ordered a replacement for this one. I just hope it fires right up after replacing it. Interesting that they did not question it, may be common for new parts

Skwerl58 814 #11 Posted 2 hours ago I mounted it to the steel dash using the original push button mounting holes. I cleaned, sanded off paint and still same.

Make sure the dash is actually grounded well. I have seen throttle and choke cables melt during starting because of bad grounding.
